Default This is the Worst Loss I've Ever Experienced as a Fan

In football, nothing even comes close. Baseball, the leader in the clubhouse was 1986/Buckner, which 2003 came close to. But those losses lost a lot of their sting when the Sox won the World Series. This is so incredibly painful because of the all the negative energy towards the Pats, the grind of the perfect season which became so exausting, and how close they came here. It's hard to even think about next year. The thing is, nothing can erase this unless there was ANOTHER run at a perfect season, which at this point is the last thing I'd want. Awful awful awful.

Well, it's as bad as it can get in professional football. But it's the price that comes with constantly playing at this level and getting to this stage. It sucks, but I'd rather have three SB wins and 4 AFC championships alongside this terrible loss. than no championships and no terrible loss.

The saddest part is that it makes me want to forget the 2007 season entirely. All the great games, all the records for naught. And it was in our hands too (well, Rodney's, Asante's and Brandon's hands to be more specific). When Randy caught that TD I thought that it was the clincher, that this was the payoff for such an excruciating game, a season full of hate from everyone and it would heal the wounds of the AFC title game in Indy. Now the game just made the wounds permanent.

For some reason the Indy playoff game last year was worse for me - far worse. Not sure why.

I agree. I think it feels worse because the officiating was poor that game and I felt they got robbed, at least a little bit. After a few weeks of perspective I think I can say the Pats just got beat by a team peaking at the right time. It still hurts but the loss seems more honest.

Then again, I may just be making this up, I still feel like crap now.

Agree w/that.......I'd rather feel bad than not feel anything at all. Actually, I think I'll change my sig to that.

Belichick fan--last year was worse for you? Wow, that game definitely sucked, but this is worse for me. The perfect season/greatest of all time stuff is really getting to me.

I agree. The fact that you know people like Gregg Easterbrook out there have a giant ****eating grin on their face, and are now attributing this to "karma", or some bull****, makes it all the worse.

it will be a while before I am over this, but this is not the worst sports loss for me. this is the loss of a championship by an undefeated, three-time champion of recent years. it hurts like heck, but it's still a champion's loss.

the 86 sox loss is still in its own universe for me, in terms of how i felt at the time.
