Default Per Reiss - Pats can set record for playoff wins in a decade...

...with a win on the 3rd.
http://www.boston.com/sports/footbal...f_success.html

The following is a note from the Patriots' media relations department that caught the eye:
The Patriots have won 14 playoff games this decade, tying the 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys for the most playoff victories by any NFL team in either the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s or 2000s.
Pittsburgh and Dallas both won 14 playoff contests between 1970 and 1979, while New England has won 14 postseason games from 2000 to the present.
Most playoff wins in a decade:
Patriots (2000s) -- 14
Cowboys (1970s) -- 14
Steelers (1970s) -- 14
49ers (1980s) -- 13
Cowboys (1990s) -- 12
Redskins (1980s) -- 11
Bills (1990s) -- 10
Packers (1960s) -- 9
Packers (1990s) -- 9

The crazy part? There's still the 2008/2009 season to go.

Pretty much locks in the "best dynasty in SB era" for me assuming we get a few more playoff wins, which seems like almost a given.

I suspect the Niners are still ahead for most wins in a 10-year stretch.

Awesome but misleading. There were only championship games prior to the Sb era, and no Wild card rds prior to 1978.

Someone might argue that teams back then only had two playoff rounds before the Super Bowl, but that should ring a little bit hollow since the Patriots have only played in the opening round twice. So, only 2 of those 14 wins came in the wildcard round.

Then again, I believe they started the wildcard round in 1978 if I'm not mistaken.

Yet another argument would be that only 4 teams made the playoffs prior to 1978, then it changed to 5 teams, and at some point it was changed to 6 teams.

But here again, the Patriots would have qualified for the playoffs because they have always finished in the top 4 when they've gone to the playoffs this decade.

Not sure about ten year stretch but they won 113 in the 90's and 104 in the 80's. NE has won 90 regular season games this decade.

Edit: 87-97 the 49ers won a *****load - 134 regular season games.

This reminds of Derek Jeter leading all those postseason categories which is not that impressive since he has had 1-2 more rounds every year to do it than Ruth, Gehrig etc had.

That also makes pre SB championships misleading. I discount pre SB because there are just too many differences.
