That is your OPINION. My OPINION is different. I felt the format of WEEI is outdated and boring. You felt different. Why people switched to 98.5 is up for debate unless you have focus groups to support your theory. Personally, I feel a lot of people hated WEEI's format like I do and just didn't have a viable alternative. When Felger was on 890AM, he was the same guy and they could get ratings because of the signal.
How is it up for debate when I'm pointing to the same things people have used as their justification? Your own point matches one of mine:

What has happened is that people got familiar with the WEEI format, and that always leads to calls for change.

This is incorrect.

1.) Yes, I can
2.) Yes, you can.
You're now making assertions that are completely counter to reality, and to the English language.

The Big Show has guests on for the sole purpose to spew moronic anti-home team rants just so Ordway can easily shoot him down (see Steve from Fall River, Al from Everett, Dakaota from Braintree, Frank from Glouster, Danny from Quincy, etc.) which got tired before Butch from the Cape passed away. Sorry, but most talk show hosts' true beliefs frequently are not what they say on the air whether is it sports talk, political talk, or whatever. In many cases, if the host gave their 100% honest beliefs, it would be boring radio.
Spouting off for ratings has been going on from the beginning. Consistently taking positions solely for ratings is what I'm talking about, and that's precisely what Felger does.

If you listened to Felger more often, you'd realize that this isn't the case. For right or wrong, the guy speaks his mind. Honestly, I don't think he's smart enough to do what you are accusing him of. He has no filter.
Ive listened to him plenty and I would bet any amount of money that he looks at what angle he can take to stir the pot. Hes a lot smarter than you're giving him credit for when it comes to this matter, he cant add 2 + 2 but he knows what gets the masses juices flowing.
The show would work, in my opinion if they had someone beside him that would challenge him on his off the wall thoughts, instead you got Massarotti agreeing with him most of the time.
Right after the Sox let Victor Martinez go Felger said the only thing that makes sense that the sox would let him go is because they're selling the team, Mazz agrees. How about they were using their money to go after other better players than Victor.
Stupid stuff like the example I stated above (and there are many more)and his staying on one topic for a whole week (hello Randy Moss) isnt for me.

How are opinions up for debate? I don't know. Because they are. Just because SOME PEOPLE say they do something for a certain reason doesn't mean everyone did.

Again you are confusing opinions with facts. You have no proof for any of your assertions.

D&C, Glenn Ordway, Jim Rome, Colin Cowherd, JT the Brick, Mike Greenberg, Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, Keith Olbermann, Ed Schultz, Howie Carr, Howard Stern, Opie and Anthony, etc. all say hello. Imagine a radio show host gearing his show to try to get ratings. Go figure. Hey, I totally believe Greg Mustard speaks his mind. It has done wonders for his career.
Seriously, do you think any radio show host doesn't gear their show and opinions to generate ratings. Isn't the point to make your show interesting, entertaining, or even controversial enough to attract listeners? If you don't think most of the guys on WEEI spout off for ratings, then you are kidding yourself.
It's not really a surprise. Unfortunately, WEEI blinked, and we've now got a worse lineup over there, since the revamped Big Show sucks and the D&H replacements aren't nearly as good as their predecessors.
There's now only 1 sports talk slot worth listening to on Boston radio, and that's the D.A. slot at night, when fewer people are listening.
98.5 has been a disaster for Boston Sports talk radio.
I like Merloni when he was a guest host ... the Mutt and merloni show is gawd awful. Mut's voice is about as tolerable as mazz's.
I have been listening to either my CD's or WBZ 1030 traffic on the 3's ...
Always riveting!

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as "bad luck." RAH
I can't think of a single "buffoon" that was rotating in over at WEEI who did not have far more sports knowledge, at least within their field, than Felger.
The Big show had a rotating group of guest 'hosts', all of whom were more knowledgeable than Felger. That format allowed for a more turbulent back and forth because Ordway is a good enough host that he could usually control it. Felger isn't even good enough to control Maz when he gets going, and Maz is nothing but Felger's pet monkey on that show.
To call the rotating co-hosts on WEEI uninformed when comparing them to Felger is just ridiculous.
As much as Orway drives me nuts the rotating hosts ... brought in topically was a good listen. Holley is great but he is way too tame for the afternoon crowd. I used to love Dale and Holley ... but that was just me.
