Default ...and the draft projections start; DE Watt or Kerrigan at #17

per Reiss Twitter....
Quote:
Kiper gives the Patriots Wisconsin defensive end J.J. Watt at No. 17, and Illinois running back Mikel Leshoure at No. 28
Quote:
One other mock draft: ESPN analyst Todd McShay has Pats taking DE Ryan Kerrigan (Purdue) at No. 17 and RB Mark Ingram (Alabama) at No. 28.
Thoughts?

Do we take an RB in the 1st rd.
I don't think so.

What's with the first round runningback crap? Mcshay has us with Ingram at #28 and Kiper has Leshoure at #28.

The pats runninggame was ranked #9th in the NFL with their first 1,000 yard rusher in 6 years. I don't get what the "experts" are seeing?

Especially the last few years should prove a first round runningback isn't needed on any team (unless the guy is a generational player) with the success of late round/UDFA backs.

OLB, DE, G, LT, WR are all above RB.

You're late to the bandwagon.

Projections for 2011 draft picks started around April 25 of last year.

Look at the amount of RB's that we have that are due to be FAs.

I'd rather have Mike Pouncey with the 28th overall pick since the Patriots need to start retooling the offensive line with young talent, especially since there is a huge void at right offensive guard.

Stephen Neal 34 years of age (retirement?)
Matt Light 32 years of age (unrestricted free agent)
Nick Kaczur 31 years of age
Dan Koppen 30 years of age

New England Patriots Roster at NFL.com

In the meantime, Logan Mankins will be an unrestricted free agent after the conclusion of the 2010 NFL season.

Backup RB and double backup RB aren't 1st round needs. They are like 5th round or UDFA.

Much rather grab a Delone Carter in the late 3rd than one of these backs in the late first. Benny averaged 4.4 YPC last season. We need a backup, not a new starter.

RB should be a position addressed elsewhere. In the first round, I want DE and RG.

None of these clowns understand the major holes in the Patriots roster, especially along the offensive and defensive lines (moreso if you consider the 3-4 outside linebacker position an extension of the defensive line). I thought football games were won in the trenches?
