The real problem with replay and the Gaffney catch is that the language isn't precise enough to define what control means. What they need is another Tuck Rule, language that's so precise that it takes away from the ref trying to make a judgement call.
The ball was moving, and it wasn't totally secure, but Gaffney had both sets of fingers on it as he was moving it toward his body. I call that control. He was controlling the ball. But the ball was still moving.

Cousin,
I agree. He had contact with his finger tips on the ball the whole time. If there was any space whatsoever between the ball and his finger tips the ref would have had to rule a no catch. His tips kept in contact the whole time as he was in the process of moving the location of the ball to under his arm.....but it was not bouncing or moving away from the tips which was key.
Really no different than a side line finger tip catch as long as there is no visible space. He could spin it over his head as long as the contact remained.
In all honesty, all Pats fans would have had arched eyebrows if it was against us as there have been so many in the past. But in retrospect, we would have had first and goal, half the distance anyway with the flags on the field on that play. It might have had no bearing on a final TD if it was inc. With a time out and 44 seconds the Pats could have run once and the Ravens were definitely in pass coverage and got maybe three more plays total.
Brady's main beef was on the pick with less than a minute to go before half time, as Welker was mugged and the tip was intercepted. It should have been on the Ravens 40 yard line first down. The Ravens got way with that one and Faulk saved the day. That was the one the got Brady hot.
No way these muggings happen to the Colts WR without laundry flying. Pollian would have Goodell on the carpet. I say fine, let them play, but you better not throw a flag when we pop Harrison or Wayne.
The Pats (listen Josh!) need to have Moss run some crossing stuff underneath and that two deep safety will have to come up. That "blueprint" stops.
