A long article from the Globe on everyone's favorite undersized receiver. Check out his stats in HS--and that one soccer game they mention. [At least, I think that's a single game they're talking about. . . . ] Reading that makes me wonder if Welker would have been enough to put the Pats over the top against the Colts last year.
Also, on another forum I found what may become my nickname for Welker.
Slottweiler. I love it.

Great story. Doesn't it seem like the Pats have a few guys like this; smart, tough, talented guys who don't necessarily wow people with their physical tools?
No wonder this team is so resilient in adverse situations...

Troy Brown is the closest (too small, too slow). Lots of players have some adversity (Brady, AD: 6th round), the Pats don't have any free agents as talented or productive as Welker, and there are very few anywhere else. Pretty special player.

They called him the "Slot Machine" on ESPN. Pretty good nickname.

There's a great Youtube clip of Welker's highlights at Texas Tech. The clip points out the obvious...even if he's undrafted, you just have to bring him in as a FA to give him a look. At least.
Regards,
Chris

One thing I can say is that the minute I heard the Pats picked him up, I was completely fired up. I love the guy and he's proving his worth with every insane catch that he makes and every brutal hit he gets over the middle.
Yes, I'm wearing an 83 jersey right now....the guy is money.
