When Buffalo put up 30 on us, I was practically laughed off the forum for suggesting that Fitzpatrick might just be a good quarterback. Hopefully what he's done over the last month will put week 3 in perspective.

Mo Lewis Rocks beat me to it with the Derek Anderson comparison. Let's see how Fitzpatrick does once teams have a few games of film on him. As I recall Tim Rattay in SF a few years ago was another who looked great for a few games, and then the rest of the league got some film on him and was prepared. On the flip side you have Terry Bradshaw who looked awful his first year, and his career turned out to be okay.

I'm not trying to say Fitzpatrick absolutely will regress; he could indeed turn out to be an excellent quarterback. Just saying it's still too early to say either one way or the other after just a couple of good games this season. Keep in mind in his career he is 8-16 with a QB rating in the low 70's.

He could be a decent QB when it's all said and done, and he has made some decent throws, but I also suspect the Bills are lousy enough to have teams looking past them, whether those teams want to admit it or not. I thought it was telling this week that the Ravens were still complaining about the Pats four days after the game and well into preparing for the Bills.

Only time will tell if Fitzpatrick is a flash in the pan or the real deal. At this point, it is hard to tell.

Fitzpatrick has played 4 games. He HAS played -as well- as Brady in his 4 games. But that doesn't say a whole lot of anything really... It's obviously highly unlikely that he will have played -as well- as Brady when the season is over.

Guys catch lightening in a bottle on bad teams that other team don't take seriously. Once the league catches up...the party's over.

To be considered playing on par with Brady he's gonna have to maintain at this level for about 8-9 seasons...
The question may be a foolish one but a simple comparison of how players are CURRENTLY playing does not have to take into account a near decade of play. Also just because others have started out hot and then fizzled doesn't mean Ryan Fitzpatrick will. He's only played 4 games so clearly the jury is still out on him and he has a long way to go to be consider a good QB, but so far he's playing pretty well in his small sample of 4 games. We'll just have to wait and see where the kid's career goes.

Guy can be dangerous and clutch at times, we do need lots of tape next time we face them. The Bills game is not a checked off game. I was happy with Trent.

Point is, the Bills who are regarded as a team who need a QB have one who is playing on par with the highest paid player int he league.
Stats don't say it all. With Buffalo leading 24-20 he opens the 2nd half with a pick and the next play Flacco throws a TD. Baltimore 27-24.

Trailing 34-24 he throws a terrible pass that is picked off by Reed and returned to the 9 yard line. Fortunately for him Baltimore botched the hand off and Buffalo recovered.

Those are two very costly Int's. Yes his play has been solid in three games, but his Int's have been back breakers. I give him credit for bringing his team back. But lets see how they play next week against KC on the road.

Buffalo was coming off a bye and obviously Baltimore was coming off a hard fought 5 quarter game, he played terrible against the Jets and he played solid against us in his first start but threw to costly picks.

Brady hasn't thrown any back breaking Int's. Although he did have the strip sack.

Fitzpatrick of the 0-6 Bills? Even if he were actually pretty decent, he's not going to win any games with the team around him. Talk to me next year when the Bills have a real OL and I'll take another look at him. For now he's doomed to mediocrity in the NFL armpit known as Buffalo.

Only because his TEAM is so much better. How about the Jets game though? And also Brady did pretty much the same that you describe from Fitzpatrick against the Ravens. His team trailing 10-7, he opens the 2nd half with an interception. 3 plays later Flacco throws a TD.

I'm not trying to talk negatively of Brady there, but to nitpick a couple of INTs to discredit Fitzpatrick is wrong IMO. He's helping his team come CLOSE to winning but that defense is pretty pathetic.

I'm not discrediting him or trying to at least. Just saying the guy doesn't have much game tape (with Buffalo) and he has made a some poor decisions. How many times have we seen a QB in a new offense come out and play very well, only to have teams start to force him into mistakes when they get some tape on him.

I think we should wait until the sample size is a bit bigger before calling him the QB of the future. He has been a backup for his entire career for a reason. If he is still playing well 6 weeks from now, then I will agree with OP and say that he looks like the Bills QB for the near future.
