Really? Last year our O-line was stacked with talent, our TE's were solid, our RB's were also talented... McDaniels has benefitted from not only high offensive draft choices, but recent offseason moves.

McDaniels is like Norv Turner with Jimmy Johnson, benefitting from the Pats' talent and success, but really what has this guy done to prove to you that he is an elite OC?

shhhhh, don't let the cat out of the bag. Let everyone think he's a genius so the Jets can hire him in the offseason. Not that I don't think he's good, but it will be funnier that way.

With all the weapons we have this year it must be fun times to be offensive coordinator of the Pats.

However I'd love to see us implement some trick plays. We haven't really been all that creative this season. How about a reverse option pass from Welker to Moss? Or a hook & ladder between Moss & Stallworth?

I still don't think this guy is an elite OC.
Last year and especially this year, many people can look good with Brady at QB, a strong offensive line and RB's, and solid TE's.

I think trick plays are overrated myself. You do trick plays to catch defenses not looking and keep them off-kilter. But why does THIS OFFENSE need that? Most teams have not even been able to even slow down our offense. What would a trick play actually gain?

As for the hook and ladder, I would be pissed if the Pats ran it. That is a dangerous play and can cost you big time if not executed perfectly. Why take the risk when what we are doing is working so well.

I judge OCs based on whether they take advantage of what the other team is giving them, exploiting weaknesses, and adjustments. So far McDaniels has excelled in all these areas this year. The trick plays are great highlight reel material when executed right, but I don't think the ability to design and call trick plays is really high in my book of OC traits.

Last year, McDaniels really only had the QB and the TEs. The o-line and RBs struggled a lot last year. He had no WRs last year.

McDaniels might not be elite, but he is a top tier OC. People are doling out credit to Brady, Moss, Welker, Stallworth, the o-line, etc. and he deserves a lot of the credit too. His in-game adjustments have been near flawless all season.

I have to say my thoughts on McDaniels are on the same line as this. I'm not ready to crown him as an offensive genius or anyting. I'd still take Charlie any day of the week...

Of course you're right, but the old hook and ladder might be fun to watch. And they could pipe in "Sweet Georgia Brown" over the PA. When we play the Jets.

Not me. Give me McDaniels over Charlie every day and twice on Sunday. Memories of Charlie have washed away all his flaws that he had. The only year Weis didn't get criticism was 2004. I posted about 10 months back last year's offensive stats vs. 2003's. We were better in key categories last year importantly 3rd conversion rate (42.3% last year vs. 37.0% in 2003) even with Caldwell and whover else as our WRs. Weis was the king of 3 and outs before 2004.

Weis was a good not great OC. I think McDaniels is turning into a great OC. Weis was the same guy who didn't know what to do with a Bledsoe run offense and had his play calling abilities stripped by Parcells in New York. I think people's memories of Weis are skewed.
