Default List of positive consequences of the "scandal" (feel free to add to the list)

Overall I'd rather it hadn't happened, but their are some positives from this:

1. In a year where they are the favorites to win it all, they've suddenly been given the best "us against the world" reasoning they've ever had. So now we have the most talented, savvy, confident Patriots team ever with the best motivation ever.

2. For the rest of the season, the issue will be a bigger distraction for the teams we play than for our guys. Witness the security measures taken by San Diego. Every team we play this year will have this issue enter their consciousness, and none of them will be as good at setting it aside as are the Pats. It will be in their minds as they prepare for the Pats, and as they play them. We could have naked cheerleaders show up at their practices and not get this much benefit from it.

3. The Jets and Mangini are permanently harmed. The chemistry between the current players and their coach will never be the same. And they will be under a spotlight, searching for hypocrisy, because they cast the first stone. And you know the Patriots will make sure that spotlight stays on for quite a while.

4. that now other teams will be more hesitant to spy...so it will be more coach against coach....and we have the best coach!

5. Has more or less taken all the spotlight off Rodney, allowing him to serve his suspension without much talk.

I would say rather than coach vs. coach, it will be team vs. team. And we have the best TEAM! *****! It's week 3 and we are hitting on all cylinders. No slow start here. None of this bullsh#t about team needing to gel. ***** yeah!

SOMEDAY ... although there is scant sign of it yet ...
better-balanced pundits will begin to see this in perspective.
Contrition, embarrassment, and atonement will encourage them to say things more positive
... perhaps even leaning over a bit backwards to compensate.

Not only that....I have this funny little vision of Rodney during his time off organizing press clippings and gathering steam. When he's not working out, of course.

6. It gives us an opportunity to realize who are the stand-up realists who know this whole thing has been completely overblown. Guys like Sean Salisbury, Ron Jaworski, Howie Long, Brian Urlacher, Herm Edwards, etc.

7. It gives us an opportunity to realize who are the naive, self-righteous scumbags who feel this is more horrific than killing dogs. Guys like Chris Collingsworth, Mark Schlereth, Hines Ward, Tony Dungy, Steve Young, etc

8. It was the cause of the leak on BB's extension. No more loading up for his last year BS at least.

one big positive is it will be much harder for the Patriots to cheat this year.

I think your list makes excellent points. While I agree I would rather it didn't happen, it certainly seems to be having a galvanizing effect on the team. And I certainly don't mind Mangini being the league's pariah
