If I were the commissioner I'd be more concerned with finding out who those league sources are and just what is in it for them every time they drop a dime on somebody in media and tell them what Goodell is thinking...
The way I look at it, if Bill was worth a first in 2000, he's worth a couple of more in 2008. After all, we banked quite a few from 2007. And it's not like we fill a quarter of the roster with them like some teams. Hell, we'd have just as likely traded them into 2009 anyway.

I'm not saying that ESPN's and NFL Network's sources are 100 percent correct, but I am saying is that the ProJo article is saying the exact same thing that the sports media giants have said, but it was written in a way that makes it seem like the Pats are in the clear.
Of course ESPN is wrong on occassion, look at the Eli Manning story just yesterday. But if you've seen the coverage on NFL Network and ESPN today, it appears like they have no doubt about it.
