Default The official 'Pat on the back' to Josh McDaniels thread

Josh called an extremely well offensive game plan and kept on going into the heart of the Jets defense and took what the Jets gave us and that was perfect passes along the sidelines to Moss several times and some great pass action calls I didn't expect,He picked on Revis the rookie and it paid off a few times as well.

He did not keep the game strictly one sided in terms of run and pass and I heard one announcer say that any coach in the league wants his team to average 250 passing yds and 150 running yds in total - The Patriots came damn close to exactly matching that - Its almost what you might call a perfect offensive game plan.

Josh appears to have improved the game plan and I did not see some of the stuff he tried last year like running the same play 2 or 3 times in a row with no success - He took what this teams best talent and players do well and put them to good use and work - Once the players came through with these calls this game was as easy as cake.

This is just 1 game and the season is still VERY long,But I like what I see out of McDaniels calls this game,It appears this young man is growing well in grasping this team and I expect more of the same next week and beyond.

Josh - You deserve a part of this victory,Nice calls OC,Lets see more of them this week - Weis would be proud.

Josh did great but I'd give my pat on the back to Dante Scarnecchia who really did a great job coaching up this Offensive line and Brady was barely touched this afternoon.

Yes Dante did coach well too but in reality the Offensive lineman are taught to simply keep the man assigned to each guy off of the QBs back - Its more of a great job by the O-lines talent than it is a O-line coach whereas the OC has to send game plans in immediately without knowing what the Jets plan defensively on the other side (although we are accused of cheating I hear ) - A much harder job to accomplish well IMO

Better players make for better play calling. Many wished we had Charlie back last year, but he's not looking like a great play caller at the moment because his team isn't very good. Josh couldn't have called some of these plays last year.

I'm impressed with this game, but I'm still withholding judgement on this guy as an OC. I'm hoping that he's matured and grown up a bit, but I'm still concerned about him being overmatched. I hope he starts to develop a track record this year where our offense manufactures first downs and touchdowns in high pressure situations, which I consider to be indications of good play-calling and coaching.

I don't understand your point - You are saying Josh could not have called these plays because the offense was not very good last year yet we were within 1 first down of probably winning the whole thing?

I think the receivers were average at best last year but the offense as a whole was good enough to win,,and obviously that was the case - You can't compare the pathetic non existent offense Charlie has at the Golden Dome to the offense of the 2006 Patriots.

If the Patriots continue to put up 30 or more points per game I could care less about Josh being overmatched by any opposing OC

I was particularly impressed with McDaniels on the Pats drive just prior to the half.

He had a first down at the 7 and Goal to go. He ran Maroney into the line twice forcing the Jets to burn off a timeout and burned of almost two minutes off the clock, so there was only a minute to play in th half. On third down Brady threw a TD to Watson at the back of the end zone .

Not only did the Pats score, it prevented the Jets from having time to match before the half.

Great strategic play calling. The runs set up the TD pass, and might have scored on the ground, anyways.

Many here were all over Josh for play calls last year. I wasn't. He didn't have the players to call the wider variety of plays he can now. I also think fans, for the most part, both know little if anything about play calling(me included) and basically say when a play works it was a good call and when it doesn't it was a bad call. The point I was making about Charlie this year is the team is making him look bad. "Good enough" last year wasn't good enough.
