He will be ready to go in week 1, he is a warrior. The Patriots have their own walking wounded to worry about.
I'm sure he'll be on the field for week 1 but, if the report is true that Jones injured his calf as a result of favouring his achilles, then whether or not that achilles is truly healed in time for week 1 is another matter altogether. What's more, whether or not said achilles can withstand the pounding and punishment it's going to be receiving is yet another matter.

I hope he has 1/2 leg my the time Sept. 9 rolls around but am more concerned about the Patriots. Right now we are without our top WR, top DL, top CB and may finally see our #1 RB. At least the Jets have a backup for Thomas.
Game 1 is important for the Pats, it is hyperbole but they can essentially lock up the division by beating the Jets.

True perhaps, but can you not multi task and worry about our Pats while being interested in Jones
I had a calf strain that occured last June playing softball that is finally healed now. A strain is a partial tear of the calf muscle, so I can't see him at 100% for a while.

Not sure what they are suggesting timeframe wise, JSP.
The point now however is that Jones has a bum achilles, in addition to a strained calf muscle.
Achilles injuries are very bad injuries to recover from as they are a part of the body which receives very little blood flow. Thus they are a very slow healing injury. For an athlete who earns a living juking, jiving, planting and accelerating in and out of cuts in awkward positions, to be nursing such an injury is not good news
I think that Jones will be used more as a between the tackles runner and that Washington will get a lot of reps on 2nd and 3rd downs because of his quickness and versatility. Washington is a guy who could develop into the Jets version of Kevin Faulk.
ones pedals way back into workouts

RB Thomas Jones, sidelined nine days with a strained calf, started working yesterday on the stationary bike - his first real leg work since the injury. Jones is expected to be ready for the Sept. 9 opener, although medical experts say there's no guarantee it will be healed. A Grade I strain has a recovery time of two to three weeks; it takes one to two months for a Grade II strain to heal. The extent of Jones' injury is unclear.

That is from one of todays papers, The way I understand things is the Achilles strain is what caused the calf strain, the achilles strain is common among tennis players and is more a result of over training and over use, no mention anywhere yet about any tears.

I would rather that he does play so there are no excuses. I'm sure that you feel the same way about our injured players.

Absolutely agree, I heard that the franchise mite need time off around then, I am sure he will play though.
Other then Jones, whom I fully expect to be healthy and ready for game 1, the rest of the Jets starters are fairly healthy.
