whoever thinks he was the 4th best is a joke

he was the best cover safety in the draft..not my opinion.Many scouts agreed.

He plays run..his only negatives were the issues on the field and his size.

he would of been 2nd behind Landry

Landry is the consistent/always in position guy..not many mistakes but not flashy. Does everything well

Meriweather is the cover guy who will come up and play run

Nelson is the guy who makes the plays but not as willing in run support

Griffin is the solid tackler but inconsistent


All of them can cover well imo..and all of them can certainly make a huge hit

im not being a Miami homer or a Patriots homer..its the facts

Meriweather is as good as your gonna find in coverage..hes smart, a leader and even though hes small, he comes up and hits and plays run

reminds you of: Michael Huff. Hes versatile, play all 3 spots.

i wont say Reed because Reed gets beat quiet a bit but thats because hes a freelancer..he gets anxious and moves around looking to make a play

Landry: He plays run very well..pass very well and hes a leader and a big hitter.

reminds you of: Dawkins. just like Brian, hes a big hitter, very solid in coverage(in position) and he will play in box/blitz

Nelson: no doubt hes very athletic..he flies to the ball. great instincts. problems are he doesnt read offenses very well/free lances a bit and not as good against the run as you might think a big hitter is

reminds you of: Sharper. Sharper was questioned a lot about stopping run but hes always been around the ball. I wanted to say Eugene Wilson a little because both are smaller than a lot of safeties(CB/S tweener if you will) but both can hit hard but miss tackles.

Griffin: Hes had a lot of ups and downs in coverage. Hes a sound tackler and will do what it takes to help the team.

id put Griffin ahead of Merriweather vs the run but other then that I think your spot on.

Coverage would be hard to define. Landry is actually pretty mediocre at man coverage and is much better suited to either play the deep zone or the run near the LOS. Nelson is great at zones and is Ed Reed like at ball-hawking, but again struggles at the man up coverages. Meriweather and Griffin both have man coverage ability and have played some corner, and Griffin actually may continue to stay at CB in Tennessee. Overall, they're very comparable in the overall category, it's hard to pick.

I'd put Griffin ahead of Meriweather for the run support, as he is a solid wrap-up tackler whereas Meriweather's tackling is more of that Sean Taylor hit stick type, which could be a problem at times in the NFL. Landry is first in this for sure.

Playmaker, I'd actually put Landry second. He can make some great plays from anywhere on the field. Then Meriweather 3rd and Griffin 4th.

I actually don't think Landry should be that high on the coverage list, but he was the best all around Landry Safety in the draft. In my opinion Meriweather was the second best all around Safety in the draft. When it comes to coverage ability in terms of his overall coverage ability I'd take Meriweather, and I'm not the only one who thinks so since some scouts had him ranked as the third best Corner (yes Corner) in the draft.
