Default Good article on the minicamp by Steve Buck the Pats an around the clock obsession

From the resident Red Sox historian, a pretty good article on the Pats Mini Camp.. have not seen a lot of articles by him on the Pats, but this one is worthwhile. This is a great line and describes many of us, "And then the duo of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady [stats] fixed things so that the Patriots became an around-the-clock obsession."

http://patriots.bostonherald.com/pat...icleid=1005422

FOXBORO - The Patriots [team stats] held what might best be described as gym class this week out behind Gillette Stadium, yet it was the hottest sports story in town.

Did we say town?

When ESPN covers your gym class, you know it’s something special.

They call it minicamp, but to Patriots fans, it has become major-camp. And why not? When a team emerges as the professional sports franchise against which all others are measured, it just makes sense that fans are going to take a proprietary interest in said team’s pre-training camp limbering-up session.

Things were not always so. In the not-so-distant past - say, pre-Bill Parcells - the Pats could have held minicamp at Government Center, at noon, and Mayor Flynn would have been yelling out the window to get those kids the heck out of there.
But the trio of Parcells, Drew Bledsoe and Robert Kraft fixed things so that the Patriots became around-the-clock news.

And then the duo of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady [stats] fixed things so that the Patriots became an around-the-clock obsession.

Can you imagine what the marketing people from the Bruins [team stats] and Celtics [team stats] must be thinking? Here they are, trying to figure out how to make their teams relevant in the fickle New England sports market, and the Pats become the news of the day by staging a pre-preseason practice session.

All sooo true, isn't it.

And it just got a little worse...

Media types are warned not to report on what’s happening on the field, including “. . . describing formations, personnel groups or non-conventional plays.” And that’s too bad, because we saw a new play that’s going to knock your socks off when the Pats use it against the Jets in Week 1

This year's team is going to be carrying the burden of Peyton Manning-level hype, I hope they skip the around-the-clock commercial endorsements though, I might even get saturated.
