Default OT: dish tv

I was thinking on getting a dish for my house. What I need to know is can I get a dish and have 3 tv's hooked up with each getting all local channels and a package that has NESN? I am looking to pay about $45 per month. Is this possible? I appreciate any help.

Are you looking at DISH NETWORK or DirecTV? They are different. DirecTV is the only one you can get the NFL SUNDAY TICKET on.

But, if you live in Mass, then you should be able to get all the Patriots games on local channels.

My parents were with DirecTV for over 10 years and they still agree that it was the best move that they made. According to them, they only lost reception about 6 times over that 10 year span when it wasn't power related. I know that our neighbors lost it 6 times in one year because of issues with the cable company.

I don't know about the cost. I pay a lot more but have just about every option. I have had Directv for the last 14 yrs here in Northern VA and I get the NFL Sunday ticket. I can tell you that Directv is the best choice if you have HD. I run a 50" Plasma monitor and a Directv receiver that has an HD tuner, Satelite tuner and DVR built in. I also have two other TVs hooked up - one with a smaller HD monitor and a third TV that is just an analog. Directv is ahead of the cable guys in HD quality broadcasting. I get NESN and Fox Sports New England here as well. I get the local channels in HD and regular broadcast.

I've only lost programming for a couple of minutes in the heaviest of rains. Overall, I've found them to be dependable and the picture quality to be excellent. They are supposed to be working on expanding the HD channels in the near future to be hundreds of channels. BTW if you haven't seen Discovery HD channel, you haven't seen real HD.

Hope this helps.

I just called the dish network and they are running a 10 month special for local channels and america's top 100 plus with 3 tv's for $30. After that it costs $40. I'm just wondering about the reception during stormy weather?

It seems that most of the people here have DirecTV and not Dish. Unless its a really heavy storm, you shouldn' t have any problems with your reception no matter which satelite company you choose. The only time I've ever lost reception for more than a couple of minutes was back in 04 during hurricane Charlie. My choice was and is DirecTV, they are a little more expensive but, IMHO, better.

If your a football fan, and not just a Pats fan, DirecTV is the only way to go due to Sunday Ticket.

I had Dish network in college and didn't like it. I got directv a couple years ago (so i could get sox and pats games) and i could not be happier. In that time (3 years) I lose the signal in storms about twice a year and even then it's only out for a couple minutes at most. (these are rain storms so hard i can't see my truck in the driveway which is 30 feet away)

Directv will be a little more money than dish (at first) but it's well worth it...picture quality, channel lineup, and ease of use is all #1.....i don't plan on switching ever!

Just my $.02

Well, If you do it right, you can get free months with DirecTV. In fact, if you get referred by any of us here, we can get $50. But then, if you refer someone, YOU can get $50 as well.

Also, I would compare the number of channels you get and whether or not the channels you get are what you want. No sense in going cheaper if you aren't getting decent channels. Finally, DirecTV generally doesn't charger for local channels anymore or if they do,its like $1.

I, too, am seriously considering leaving cable, so thanks for everyone's input. I am tired of not having the NFL Network. I live in Austin and when I recently called Time Warner to ask them when they were getting it, their direct quote was "never". My apartment complex now allows dishes (with a deposit), so it looks like that's the route I'm going, too. My parents had Direct TV for several years and loved it. It seemed like there were a lot more channels than cable for the money, and yes, the picture quality was great.

I have DirecTV, have had it for several years (have to to get the Pats instead of Lions.) I would never go back. The picture quality is great and the value for what you get is great. The reception problem that cable companies use to scare you away is vastly overrated in my experience. On Wednesday night, we had horrible thunderstorms all night. It was literally thundering from about 9 am-5 am, and lightning as bad as it's been in a couple years. I was watching Wings-Sharks, and while at times it froze up for a quick second, I didn't miss the game. Overtime playoffs in a thunderstorm, and we were all good (plus the Wings won!)

The only beef I have is that I don't have a home phone, and you need a phoneline for the initial setup of the DTV DVR, which sucks. I think I have to get a TiVo for that.
