Crazy Patriot Guy

We all have our favorites. We all have that one guy that we really like. Being a UT fan, I've watched Griffen his entire career and would love to see him with New England. If he's around when they pick and they go with another safety, or another position all together, it's real easy to get that "What are they thinking?" feeling.

If that happens, I'll quickly remember that starting with Richard Seymour in 2001, this team has been absolute money in the 1st round. When Daniel Graham is the "worst" pick in that span, that means you're doing incredibly well. I don't think any other team has come close to the same success. At this point, I wouldn't question it if they drafted me.

Also, most of us look at DB and LB has the two biggest needs right now. Both positions are needing youth for the future but I think most would feel those two spots are needed the most for this season. Remember though, the Patriots don't draft players with the sole thought of winning that year's Super Bowl, nor should they. If WR or OT or RB is the best value, they'll take him.

My dream 1st round would be Griffen and Harris. If the Patriots end up with Ginn Jr. and Leonard, they've earned the benefit of the doubt.

My dream first round would be Nelson and Harris, or Posluszny and Griffin.

I don't want Joe Staley or Aaron Ross, but if we end up with those guys, I'll be fine with it. I know that BB/SP know better than I do.

Nelson has major intelligence problem. I don't see him drafted by the Pats.

Meriweather and Harris is my dream draft, but Ginn and Leonard would be triumph of a draft for the offensive firepower it would provide.

My turn for things to remember.

Patriots know better than us..whoever they pick..lets try to be at least somewhat happy. (After you scream in rage and break the TV if we pick an unwanted player or a TE)

The more I read, the more I am convinced is that there will only be one #1 pick, the second will be traded away for Draft Pix this year or next year...the consensus is that after #10-15 all the value is pretty much the same for a long time, and the Pats have this tradition. So I see them trading one of their #1's for a #2 this year and next.

I was listening to Todd McShay yesterday on ESPN and the way he talked about Ben Grubbs ( he said he'd be a top 10-15 pick if he was a OT),got me thinking....

Would it be so un-Beoli-like to draft Grubbs at #24? Assuming we can't trade down, which I think they would like to do to get value, I'm warming to the idea of a 1st round of Grubbs and then Harris or Poslusny at #28. Then in the 3rd we can get either a McCauley or a Wendling, for example, maybe even with a small trade up. 4th round can be a RB like Henry, Bush, or Booker.

We'd get value here and potentially give our OL a major upgrade. Could Mankins play LT? If so then move Light to RT and put Grubbs at LG, or maybe put him directly in to RG over Neal. Grubbs should be a Pro-Bowl caliber player for 10-15 years, and I sure think he's a safer pick than Ross, Houston, Nelson, or Griffen.

In this scenario we get the much needed MLB whom the Pats apparently like and still get a DB with upside who can challenge for a starting job relatively soon while adding speed and depth for this year.

All the while we are getting value in a very Beoli-like manner.
