The more you analyze it, the more you realize they know how to play the game and most other teams don't.
While staying competitive they conserved resources and made deals when they had to.
Worst case scenario, they were forced to take a first round pick in exchange for the bottom pick in the second round.
They saved 6 million dollars and replaced him with three Wrs drafted higher and rated much higher than him in the same draft.
All three for a fraction of the one salary.
Now some team is going to force us to accept a first and more, (I believe) for a former 4th round pick unless we can sign him.
Meanwhile, we're so far ahead of the game, we've addressed most problems and still have two #1s to use on DBs if we choose and some vet experience to help them adjust.
It's not the hand your dealt, it's how you play it.

Belichick would bluff everyone off, then eat fifty eggs.
And draft 4 QBs in the 6th round, just to mess with everyone's heads, trade Cassell for a second, trade the other three and keep one as future TB replacement.

I think the Pats might be able to get a 1st and 3rd for Samuel from someone. If the Skins come courting they'd have to offer a pretty sweet deal for us to accept the $$ demands of a #6 overall pick imo so it would have to involve more than just #6.

Or a 1st this year and 2nd rounder in 2008. The team's gotta start stockpiling picks for next year. Got a ton of them this year.

Great thread title and great post. Just because we have a forum called PatsFans doesn’t give us the right to have ridiculous and grandiose thoughts.

Well, I'm not trying to put people down, but when we have such excellent wheeler dealers they should be appreciated.
Patience and consistency will win out in their domain as it does in the stock market or real estate. Sometimes that means resisting the urge to spend when there are no good deals.
