I actually have no opinion, but voted yes because I think the FO can judge a guy in their own division and know what they want.

Worked pretty well with Vrabel, (not division, but he made a big play against us).

Welker is a hell of a ballplayer. It would be great to have him.

although i think maroney and hobbs are better kick returners
(and troy wasnt a kick returner in those yrs, even though he was like the all time ncaa leader in kr avg)

While a number two is very valuable, Welker is a guy who makes things happen on the field. I also get the sense that he's a good locker room guy as well. I voted a strong yes.

Yea...BIG TIME!
If for no other reason we won't have to defend him two games per year.

i voted nay
and in the other poll, when it was pure speculation, i voted no
but im starting to lean towards yay now
i mean the guy would have led the pats in receptions last yr with teh same amount of catches
and i think what the pats are thinkin, is he could be the 2001 version of troy brown, and give tom a guy that can make things happen after the catch
heck, troy had 101 catches in 01
i dont see wes doin that
but 70 catches for 800+ yards might be reachable

and, there is pretty much no chance a rookie wr can do that for us
thats the biggest thing
the IMMEDIATE impact he can make
thing is, if we had been able to sign a guy like engram, stallworth, or curtis who can contribute right away like that AND take a project wr in the second were maybe better off, however those guys would prob be more expensive, except for engram, and might not be able to even contribute as much

When I look at BB (and SP) recent 2nd round draft picks:
'06: Chad Jackson
'05: - none -
'04: Marquise Hill
'03: Eugene Wilson & Bethel Johnson
'02 Deion Branch

So I would say that even the best (one of the best) draft pickers (BB & SP) would rather take Wes Welkers production last year (over 60 receptions) rather than roll the dice with a (low) 2nd rounder. Pats are built to win the SB NOW and need the WR help THIS COMING SEASON. Plus this would get Welker here in the Spring so he could learn the system and work on timing with Brady vs a rookie who probably would need a year or two learning how to play with the big boys.

im not joking
i dont think he was insinuating hes had the best luck
although branch and geno were great picsk
he was saying it cuz he felt there was the most value there
since the contracts go way down etc
and the fact that the ability seems to be mushed together after the first half of the first rd
