Belichick/Pioli/Kraft giving fans exactly what they want
The past few offseasons have been frustrating to fans in that we've seen all the free agents we wanted signed off to other teams. In '05 we watched Derrick Mason, Ed Hartwell and Kenny Lucas go eslewhere while we brought in David Terrell, Monty Beisel and Duane Starks. Last year we seemed to sleep through free agency, adding Caldwell and a bunch of special teams guys. It was a real pisser.
With the news that Wes Welker will be signed to an offer sheet, it strikes me that the Pats are making exactly the moves that the fans were wanting. All season, we've raved about Adalius Thomas and how good he'd look in our 3-4 defense. We assumed that he'd cost too much to come here. After the Miami games we raved about Wes Welker. How he kills us each time we play, how he's the quick posession guy we need, and how his versatility on special teams is perfect for us. We assumed that we wouldn't spent the 2nd rounder necessary to get him.
I'd like to take an opportunity to say "thank you" to the Pats organization for giving me exactly what I want this offseason.
And while we're at it, could you find a way to trade up to get LaRon Landry in the draft, I've been drooling over him for about 15 months now.

Something tells me the Pats arent doing this because they think its what we want. They probably think they are getting good Football players to help the team

trade with the 'Skins (6th overall).

Re: Belichick/Pioli/Kraft giving fans exactly what they want
Hmm, your observation scares me. In the good old days, the Pats organization couldn't care less what fans wanted in the offseason. Instead they made us happy in the postseason. I sure hope you are wrong, and it's just a weird coincidence.
Re: Belichick/Pioli/Kraft giving fans exactly what they want
I think BB realized he needed to bring in some players and stop band-aiding the issue. The salary cap is only going to increase each year and their is an awesome window of opportunity the next 4-5 years to compete for a superbowl every year.
I say do not trade up. It will only cripple the salary structure that I'm sure these salaries are inching towards the cap.
They have the great luxury of now trading one of those #1's for a 2008 #1 and 2nd rounder this year or just use both to add depth and quality talent.
This team is going to be deep and scary.

That certainly isn't a move *I* want, as a Pats fan. Sure, for a lot less money, and if it didn't mean giving up a 2nd round pick, I'd be happy with signing Welker. But, considering the money supposedly offered, and that we'd have to give up a 2nd round pick, I think it's a very bad move. We could get a good WR in the 2nd round this year (deep WR class) for far less money, or sign one of the several UFA WRs who *wouldn't* require a 2nd round pick - like Brandon Stokley, who is virtually the same player as Welker.

So, Mike, who's your "Ben Watson" pick this year? IIRC, you correctly predicted that we would pick him.
