I fail to see why 'playing hardball' was a bad move.
In fact if I recall correctly the twerp's agent refused to even speak with the Patriots. Had we caved signed the little folker by tearing up this year's contract, Asante and Graham could be siting out the playoffs unless they got a new deal, RIGHT NOW! End of franchise competitiveness.
Folks need to separate out a WR contingency plan that failed to meet the suddenly imposed requirements of one season from the demise of the Pats effectiveness as an org and a team.

This article is a joke, but I shouldn't have expected anything else.
Quote:
The Pats have had a lot of success by maintaining a strict fiscal policy. But letting veteran after veteran go might have caught up with them this season. They lost their top receiver Deion Branch after an ugly negotiation, and quarterback Tom Brady lashed out at the team. Now, Brady is on his way to having the lowest passer rating of his career this year. Yes, New England is 9-4 and will win the AFC East, but that division is a joke this year, and if the Patriots were playing like they should, they would have captured homefield advantage in the AFC playoffs.
Where to begin....
1) 9-4 isn't continued success?
2) Branch's negotiations only got ugly because Deion chose that path.
3) Brady did lash out a little, so I'll give them that.
4) Lowest rating is something like 3 points off of his high. Not much of a difference.
5) Would people please stot with the "AFC East is a joke" talk?! They have the most total wins of any division in the league.
Do these writers have editors or SOMEBODY to do fact checks?

So what does that make the rest of the divisions in the league, which all have lower winning percentages?
I thought the same thing. It's funny how a talking point gets established in the pre-season and it somehow becomes an indisputable fact down the line. This is a scrappy division IMO. The Phins have beaten Chi., darlings of the NFC. So have the Pats. Buffalo played SD to within 3 points and nearly beat us week 1. Even the Jets are better than I expected. They damn near beat Indy.

i dont agree with the signing of kerry collins being a bad offseason move
obviously jeff fisher and the titans gm/organization didnt sign kerry collins to have him be the permanent starter...they signed collins to get volek out...so they can bring in VY sooner....there was no way volek was going to let fisher put VY infront of him...
sign collins, and make him the starter, that in turn makes volek upset and break the "no trade clause" in his contract and ask for a trade.....fisher projected VY to start games during week 8-10 and on....give him time to develop under collins....but collins was just too terrible, so VY started sooner than expected...
VY starting so soon would've never happened if volek was still a titan....
collins knew he wasnt going to get an extension from the raiders b/c they just signed aaron brooks, and he also knew he wasnt going to be the starting qb for the titans for too long....but he just wanted a contract....
SI.com think the AFC East is a joke, yet 2 AFC EAST teams are probably goign to make the playoffs....at least the jets have the easiest schedule out of the remaining afc playoff contenders....
the team to beat in the NFC is probably the Bears(11-2), the bears in their division 4-0 and in their conference 9-0......OH!!!! the NFC team to beat have their only losses to AFC EAST teams...PATS and Dolphins...and BARELY beat the Jets with a final score of 10-0.....
yes, SI has been around for a long time, but i find more and more reasons lessen their credibility.....
yes, the same SI.com that projected the miami dolphins to win the AFC East this year. (preseason projections)
