Default Week 4 player of the week: Jarvis Green!

Finally the NFL has a Patriot as a Player of the week!

Pats' Jarvis Green, along with Texans Andre Johnson and Browns' Josh Cribbs were named the AFC players of week 4!

p.s. Laurence Maroney was a nominee!

Although it's nice to see a Pats player's efforts rewarded, I think a little much is being made of Green's 3 sack day.

He's a good player, and a key contributor, but he's not an elite one, and I don't look forward to the flood of posts on this forum criticising our coaching staff for not having him on the field more whenever we use mostly 3-4.

Getting 3 sacks in a game is nice, but it's important to remember that these statistical achievments come as part of a combined defensive effort. BB himself pointed this out, according to Mike Reiss, who wrote in http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/articles/2006/10/04/hobbs_broke_wrist_vs_denver/]today's Patriots Notebook:

Quote:
Although defensive lineman Jarvis Green was credited with a career-high three sacks in Sunday's win, coach Bill Belichick pointed out that two of the sacks wouldn't have been possible without some important help.

On Green's first sack, which caused Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer to fumble, linebacker Mike Vrabel had the key assist. When Vrabel faked a blitz over the middle, it caused Bengals right guard Bobbie Williams to take his initial step to the left, allowing Green to fight his way past him on the other side.

On Green's second sack, defensive lineman Richard Seymour pushed left guard Eric Steinbach into the pocket, forcing Palmer to step up into Green's rush.

Yes Green's performance was aided added by other layers on the team, but the same can be said for every payer who won. Football is a team game and nobody does anything by themself. But that doesn't mean their performances weren't still great. And because this applies to every player you can't single out Green with that reality.

Give the guy a break. He came in, stepped up, and kicked ass. What's next, take the game ball away from Dillon?

heh heh - can't we just be happy for jarvis?

these awards are so arbitrary anyway - it's just a nice achievement - that's all.

who cares about all the specific details?

maroney could've easily won't as well.

kinda funny they names so many

Sure Green had 3 sacks with the help of his teammates but he still had 3 sacks. He deserves his 15 minute of fame. Why not? He never gets to start the hole game so only playing part of the game and having a day that he had says alot. Not to many subed players can do what he did. I would like to see him play alot more. Goes to show that BB and Co. sure know how to pick their groceries.

I'm really happy for Jarvis, and I recognize that he had a great game, especially for a guy who doesn't see the field as much as I'm sure he'd like.

I'm just not looking forward to the overreaction where people start acting like this is something we should expect every week from him, and ***** about how we should have played more 4-3 to get Green on the field if we have a disappointing defensive performance.
