Belichick has been very adamant in his dislike of zone blocking...He has even called it lazy

Something I read recently --- can't recall where --- called us a zone blocking team. If so, that magnifies the importance of Shanahan's glowing appraisal of Maroney!

The Patriots O linemen are NOT physically suited to a zone blocking offense. We got apples, you need oranges to implement that scheme...just look at Denver's O line physical stats compared to ours and you will see a STARK contrast.

I've seen some respected members of this board use that term and it raised my eyebrows as well. I don't agree that our O-line is ill-suited to it, mobility being the key skill required. Koppen, in particular, was doing some cut-blocking before he got injured. IMO, our offense will be more of a hybrid, Maroney is definitely a back who can run in a zone-blocking scheme. It remains to be seen if Corey will be able to get to the corner again, but he should still be valuable between the tackles.

``The officials now are evaluating the players and their performance, I mean, that's great,'' Belichick deadpanned. ``I can't say how much that means to me, really.''
