Letting Mankins walk would be a mistake. Ohrnberger is best suited as a back-up, we have NO idea what we have in Bussey, and Kaczur is not as good of a guard as Mankins is. Mankins is still relatively young and is one of the better guards in the league. We should do all we can to retain him.

I could care less if a player doesn't sign back with us because they want huge $$$$$. If the millions that they are making for playing a game for their career isn't enough then they don't deserve to be on a winning team. He can go to Oakland and lose.

If you could care less I guess it's all good.

If Mankins wants that type of money and someone gives it to him, I say he can walk. I don't think KC will be the team that pays him. Mankins is a good player, but not a great one IMO. And guards simply aren't worth that kind of $$.

I don't think you know whether any of the young guys can start. And how do we know whether Light can handle LG? I bet he can do just fine. Worst case scenario, we can use one of our early pick on a replacement and use the $8 mil/year to get us some OLB/pass rush help, or perhaps a replacement for Moss.

I'm sure Brady disagrees with this. We all saw what happened when sub-par guard play occured last year. Brady ended up with a slew of injuries and was suddenly ineffective when Stephen Neal left the game.

The fact that we don't know whether the young guy can start should only push the team harder to wrap up Mankins. Like I said, he's young and is easily one of the better guards in the league. I do not want to see the same problem that happened last year (sub-par guard play from Connolly once Neal left the game, which ended up meaning extra injuries to Brady) happen two years from now.

I agree- Mankins is still young and he's very, very good. I recently read that not only has he not missed a game since he started, but he hasn't missed a practice. Young, very good, reliable, healthy, he has a mean streak... What more do you want from him?

Exactly. If anybody on the O-Line deserves to get paid, it's him. I sincerely hope they work something out with him. If they can't, then I hope they don't "Seymour" it and actually make sure that there is a more than capable body that comes in to replace him.

Exactly right. You cannot pay more than a couple players at the top of their position, and you have to pick those carefully. It is of course better to have Mankins than Compton but the Pats won a superbolw with Compton at LG. I sincerely doubt the future of the Pats hangs on the play of its guards as opposed to QB, WR, TE, pass rush, DBs, etc.

IMO a guard simply isn't worth breaking the bank for an upsetting the salary structure.

So I don't think what mankins can get from the Pats is related to other signings. They gave Wilfork more than hampton when everyone said Hampton set the going rate because they felt Wilfork had more value to the team. If they think Mankins has more value to the Pats success than Wilfork, they will pay Mankins more than WIlfork.

Personally, I doubt it. I think that if it wasn't for the change in RFA rules, Mankins would already be gone.

That’s what we always do, and I think the last nine years we’ve put a pretty competitive team out there on the field every year. I think that’s how you do it – you get good football players. Sometimes they are not always at the No. 1 position, but I don’t think you pass up good football players to get the guys who aren’t as good just because they’re at a position that somebody feels you need.”
