Pats haven't been the same since they evolved into a finesse offense. Yes, it almost won them a 4th SB... almost.

Drafting 2 TE, both of whom can catch, is a step in the right direction. Brady is one of the better play action passers in the NFL. It'd be nice to see him kept upright for the last 5 or so years of his career... commitment to running the ball, short and intermediate passing attack to move the chains, the occasional deep ball... our best chance for return to SB as the defense is rebuilt.

The RBs they have on the roster are fine - don't ever forget 2 SBs with Antowain Smith as the primary runner - that's enough evidence.

The WRs they have on the roster are fine - don't forget 3 SBs won with Patten, Givens, and Branch for a part. WRs are gonna be ok.

But 2 TEs - the ability to work the middle of the field with guys who can also stay in for the threat of a run - is the right direction to head, especially in the outdoors in the Northeast.

I've been around for awhile. I'm setting my expectations a bit lower.

A Belichick TE needs to be a good blocker first and foremost... and then needs to take the time to gain Brady's trust.

Seeing as the best TE we've had in goal line situations in the Brady era has been Mike Vrabel, I'm going to be very cautious in my expectations of two rookies who have yet to show they can block or catch in the NFL.

Well said.

But Vrabel DOES hold a career Super Bowl receiving record. (More precisely, he's tied for it with Jerry Rice, David Givens, and others.)

Yes, the reality is that a receiving tight end may be more effective than having Edleman in the game as a slot reciever.

When Welker is back, I would think that we would almost always want Moss, Holt and Welker on the field together.

I feel totally fine with 3 WR package, Moss, Holt and then Edelman/Welker in the slot.

But now the multiple TE package is a threat as well.

I completely agree with what you said about the TE being a better option than Edelman, both short get rid of the ball quick kind of throws. Having a big target like Crumpter and Grons might be the better option. I really hope we utilize our TEs this year especially in the red zone

I think having the players had to come first. BTW, Hernandez is also an option and can play h-back. We've been looking forward to this three player combo for a very long time.

Yeah I see Hernandez as more of an h-back and then a 3rd TE. Less involved in the passing game

My understanding is that Hernandez is the smaller sized TE, but with great hands; makes tons of catches. Grons is obviously bigger. He could be a force in the NFL if he learns well and stays healthy. Yeah, add these two to a solid veteran...TE unit ready to go.

Personally, I'm more interested to see how many of the WR prospects (and newbies) work out. The best thing for the Pats would be to become WR rich; let them all step up- no problem!

I expect Moss and Holt to be one of the very best combos in the league. Edelman was a pretty good slot guy last year (when Welker was out). I expect him to do OK in that role.

I guess it will be interesting to see if we get anything from Tate and Price. However, I don't see them being on the field much, especially since we now have reasonable tight end targets to go with the three wide receiver targets.
