Why continue to place our best in the limelight for the rest of the league to see?

Any reasoning to my madness?
Maybe. IIRC, teams can prevent non-coordinators from interviewing if they're under contract for future seasons, but I don't know if that rule applies to all positions or if the same exemption that exists for coordinators interviewing for HC gigs applies.

[Also, FWIW, remember that the Bucs fired Jon Gruden b/c they were afraid they were going to lose Raheem Morris. . . .]

It's not the job you have, it's the job being offered. Found this info from a pro coaching agency site and it explains it all pretty well. The NFL only recognizes two coaching categories, HC and Assistant Coach. So an assistant can't interview for a coordinators position (or even a position as an asst. HC) without permission (and all contact has to occur at the ownership level) because payscale aside it's considered a lateral move, whereas anyone being offered a HC position, be they a coordinator or a position coach, must be granted permission to interview (once the teams season is over or during those limited windows during the playoffs if they're in them). So position coach to Coordinator isn't a given if you're under contract for the upcoming season, although few teams will stand in a position coaches way for obvious reasons (disgruntled employee...). And if a team grants permission for one franchise to interview you it must grant it to anyone else who asks thereafter.

Any team to coach contact is technically considered tampering in season or under contract. All contact has to pass from ownership to ownership. When teams wanted to interview Josh after 2007, they had to ask permission even though Kraft was obligated to grant it, but the coach has the ability to turn down the request, which Josh did. Whereas if someone wanted to interview Matt or Pepper for a coordinators position the team could simply refuse permission (provided they are under contract). Contracts generally expire 15 days after the season ends.

Other NFL teams love stealing our assistant coaches

Good luck w/ the LB's.

I figured McDaniels was too young to lose.

I think Bill needs to use high school aged kids to coach ... maybe they stay a few years.

Is it as easy as "staying" or as complicated by being lured away for a glamorous position, complete control on the field and and a lot of cash.

I'm with ya on this, and have said the same thing.
I don't think he wants it to be so easy for teams to raid his coaching staff anymore, and I don't blame him one bit.
Why should he train them in his way only to let another team swoop in and remove the guy,to the detriment of the team......I'm sure Bill is sick of having to retrain guys for the same thing every year or 2.

Pass rush? Uneccessary when you have 72 CBS playing.
Lbs? What for, we have no pass rush, they gonna chuck it at our lousy CBS...all 72 of them bums

Just the wrong way round -- we want some ageing, overweight guy whom the owners will think would have a heart attack if he were ever to have the Head Coach pressure on him.

We have had a decent football team in recent years a few D3 playoff appearances and the likes. Not exactly D-1 scholarship quality, but was fun to watch on the weekends.
