Default BJGE and running back unit thoughts

I just wanted to say that I don't see where he has progressed this year. I was in the hoping he would make it BJGE club. But I don't see it. A small sample size but I think it would be more carries if he showed better during practice.

If anything he has regressed. I don't think he even makes the team next year. Other than running hard off tackle - I don't think he has anymore to offer other than RB insurance.

I think we get another year out of Taylor, Morris, Maroney and Faulk with a new body brought in next year - a rookie who is more versatile in the running and passing game like Faulk is. Perhaps Morris goes also??? He has been dropping balls he used to catch before.

Thoughts?

BJGE had some chances especially early when we used him and faulk in the double rb in 3rd down set. THe problem was dropped catches and the last i saw was a drop in the end zone .He was open and ball hit his hand and bounced out.

From what it looked they wanted him to develop into more passing down back and faulk backup as they are smaller guys. But did not pan out.

I see a 3rd round pick atleast on a back next year.Maroney suprisingly does not drop a bunch when thrown to him and might see more action.

Zolak even says that of all the RB maroney looks the biggest .Faulk is very productive and knows our offence which helps so its been taylor and morris. I will keep morris as he is a better pass catcher and plays FB.

He seems OK for a STer and a 5th string RB. I think people just went a little overboard with their expectations for the guy because they perceived he didn't moonwalk behind the LOS.

Besides BGJE, the Pats also have Chris Taylor, who is currently on the IR..

That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing the Pats use their 2nd round pick (which should be in the bottom half of the 2nd round) on a RB like Toby Gerhardt.

BJGE is a true north-south runner and I hope they will use him eventually. He has good speed and is a hard hitter.

I am really tired of BB hitting the scrap pile for those running backs. It's time to invest in a really good one to compliment Maroney and protect Brady (not in blocking, but in being good enough to keep the DL second-guessing or give them that half second of hesitation or doubt).

I think BJGE is a nice 5th running back, but I really don't see him becoming much more. He got way overhyped on this board by the anti-Maroney crowd, with a few going so far as to call him the next Corey Dillon. Ridiculous.

I don't know if he sticks long term, but I have nothing against him. As you say, he tends to run hard and to run north-south, and he's a good insurance back. But I wouldn't count on him to be a core component of my running attack.

Ideally, I would like to see us have Maroney (who I think will get extended beyond 2010, and who shows signs of developing into a solid all-around back), a big bruiser who can possibly double as a fullback, and an all-purpose/3rd down back. Morris, Taylor and Faulk are all on the downside of their careers. You can make an argument that Faulk has a few more years left in the tank because he hasn't been a full time back and has been playing well this year, but he can't go on forever. I'd like to see us start to reload at the position over the next year or two, and invest in at least one really solid back to complement Maroney.

Maroney has a great attitude and is a total team player - he supposedly has become a decent receiver but we don't need that out of him yet.

I see him staying at least as long as Brady ... health permitting of course.

BJGE is a #5 running back. I also expect us to draft a running back with one of our first four picks.

This.

Actually I wouldn't just mind it, I WANT the Pats to spend a 2nd on Gerhart.

Toby is officially my 2010 binky

You nailed it, that's all he ever was. If he can play teams, improve his receiving, maybe play fullback or run back kicks in a pinch, he could be Patrick Pass without the attitude, which ain't bad at all.

Maybe a good short yardage back to complement Maroney (if Maroney keeps it up).

I rooted for him to make the team because he earned it, but expecting him to have all pro talent is pretty unrealistic IMO.
