A source close to Charlie Weis confirmed that the former Notre Dame coach would be interested in the Bears' offensive coordinator position if it were to become available after this season.
Ron Turner holds that job with the Bears, though the offense's poor performance and quarterback Jay Cutler's struggles have led to speculation that the Bears will dump Turner.
Six teams are reportedly interested in talking to Weis about returning to the role of offensive coordinator that he once held with the Super Bowl-champion New England Patriots, but the Bears' job is intriguing to Weis for reasons that are both personal and professional.
By working in Chicago, Weis' son, Charlie Jr., could graduate from St. Joseph's High School in South Bend, Ind., and wife Maura could continue to run Hannah and Friends, the nonprofit foundation named for their daughter and dedicated to helping children and young adults with autism and other special needs. The couple remains committed to the charity and hopes to continue to base it out of a farm north of South Bend.

Smart move for Weis. Choose a team who's coach is on thin ice where he can come in and shine and steal the position away in a year or two. I doubt he will come back here for that reason.

Yeah, this is not good news for Pats fans. I didnt know what an effect he has had on the community there and how well his family has adapted there. It would be pretty tough to see him move his family all the way back to New England after settling there for 4 years. Also the Bears job would be a good fit for him and I think he could change Cutler around and showcase his talent. I do hope something comes up and he comes back to New England

It makes some sense for Weiss to go to Chicago, but why not come back to New England? Belichick is probably retiring after at most 3 years, Weiss could take over after him.

He couldn't change Drew...and they didn't get along. Charlie is pretty abrasive, and a needler, and for guys with egos that need massaging that can be a bitter pill. If Josh didn't want to deal with Cutler I can't imagine Charlie would.

Belichick is not going to retire for a long while.

LOL... Weiss is not gonna take over on Bob's watch anymore than RAC. It will be someone he is convinced can encompass the whole package, kinda like Josh. Charlie and RAC are simply not HC material, let alone guys capable of managing the entirety of football ops.

Good point, but I think that Cutler knows that he needs to grow up and I think would embrace Charlie coming to the Bears. He saw what he did with Brady and Clausen.
