Default Patriots/Colts to save us from worst weekly matchups in NFL history

I've never seen such a sorry schedule. I may actually need to get some fresh air or take the wife out next Sunday. If anyone is looking for a weekend to get away from the NFL, just make it back for the Patriots game.

By the way, the early spread is Colts by 3.

There is only one other game that is worth watching, as the Steelers host the Bengals. There are no other games that are even remotely worth watching. They're terrible... just terrible.

Only three other games have a point spread of less than 6.5 points. Here they are:

Bears/49ers on Thursday night. (Two teams that are hitting terminal velocity in their freefall from the sky will attempt to gain futile confidence by beating the other)

Falcons/Panthers (I actually feel bad for Jake Delhomme, but I feel worse for the viewers that have to watch the Panthers offense)

Raiders/Chiefs (to the loser goes the spoils- the 2010 first overall pick who will be a huge bust)

Now the rest of the sorry rundown:

Jaguars/Jets (Probably the next best matchup... two inconsistent teams where no outcome would surprise you, except if the game is exciting)

Broncos/ Redskins. A rematch of a Super Bowl that happened a long time ago that no one remembers... this is the best storyline of this game.

Bills/Titans (The Titans are favored by 6.5 points against another NFL team. A team that is so bad they have three wins but are 6.5 underdogs to the Titans)

Lions/Vikings (The Vikings would win if they played with 8 players on the field.)

Saints/Rams (The best team in the NFL vs. the worst team in the NFL- sorry Raiders, Chiefs, Bucs, and Browns... this team can't win and they play in the NFC West.)

Bucs/ Dolphins (Nothing gets me up for a game like a Chad Henne vs. Josh Johnson shootout. Expect a blackout, if there is any mercy.)

Seahawks/ Cardinals (I heard a broadcaster gush about the Seahawks today when they squeaked out a win against the Lions. "They are one win away from only being one game behind the Cardinals." Wow. 3-5 is much better than it used to be)

Ravens/ Browns on Monday Night Football. (Browns fans are attempting to shut down the stadium to avoid national embarrassment.)

We in Raleigh appreciate your sympathy.

This is huge! We need the Raiders to finish ahead of the Chiefs and get the Fins/Ravens on their 2010 schedule instead of the Bills/Browns. Two more Raider losses to elevate that 2011 1st rounder.

But the San-grenade is like a box of chocolates. You never know which team will score a TD on his passes. Plus he could be eating a box of chocolates on the sidelines in the 4th quarter.

Timmy Smith says hello. Plus he is out of prison now so if you are looking to score some blow...

This is brutal. Knowing how bad the Browns were last season, why would they be on Monday Night Football?

Regarding the other match-ups, it's not surprising considering how many NFL teams are declining. In fact, I noted this many times last season of how many bad teams were in the NFL and the trend is continuing this season. Seriously, you know it's a bad year when an 9-7 Arizona Cardinals team makes the super bowl.

Also, the NFL needs to implement the rookie pay scale because it's starting to cripple teams. Something is seriously wrong when teams are desperately wanting to trade out of the top 5.

Finally, in all my 12 years of watching football, I've never seen so many incompetent head coaches currently in the NFL. Until these random hires stop from owners who are looking to save a buck, we will continue to see the NFL decline. In the end, the only recent hire that was warranted was Josh McDaniels. Not only did he have the best offense in NFL history in 2007, but took a guy who hasn't played football since high school and help him throw 21 TD's in 2008.

Next weekend is not the worst weekly match up in NFL history. Apparently you have seens some of the weekends this year. There have been a lot of weeks this season where everything is a blowout.

Story lines. If you were a network exec, what would excite you more than a story line about one city's team confronting the team that abandoned that city? I mean, apart from the idea of a CSI-like show set in a new city.

The answer is not "a competitive football game."

Any football is good football. It doesn't always have to be a dream matchup.

Btw, congrats on the win over the fins.

Bring it on. Should the colts be afraid?

Last time I checked, we won 17 in a row. And yes, I'm aware of who has the record with 21 in a row. Smack talk is useless this week. It will be settled on the field, not on the message boards.
