Default Does Hoyer = Cassel part 2?

I mean the long shot QB who becomes the backup in his first season? It certainly looks like it could turn out that way...

You can't jump to that conclusion based on one performance. But the kid looks like he has similar tools. Most importantly he has poise and brains, and those are two of the most important qualities you can have to QB this offense. The test will be if he progresses. KOC didn't. Cassel did. This kid just looks closer to prototype.=

And Cassel wasn't the #2 his first season. Flutie was the #2. What he developed into was a guy BB could trust to be the #2 behind Brady with no #3 on the roster. (They added Vinny down the stretch but that was because they had room and wanted a veteran presence who could mentor the kid and step in for a quarter if there was an in game injury and the kid struggled. They would have coached Cassel up to go the rest of the way - he was the #2 and Vinny was #3.)

I go to MSU so tonight was awesome, I hope Hoyer succeeds. It's already great seeing him beat out a third round draft pick that had a year in the system.

As already mentioned, Cassel didn't leapfrog Flutie until late in the season. But Hoyer at least has an excellent shot to keep the UDFA string alive.

His pocket composure is what strikes me most -- he looked remarkably calm out there, even in the face of a rush. He only took off and ran when the running was good, etc. etc.

It's funny though, after getting used to Brady, Cassel, O'Connell and Walter, Hoyer looks like a midget!

Imagine what'll happen if they line up Edelman (5'10.5") at QB.
