Default Cassel signs long term deal with Chiefs today - 6 years, $63M ($28M guaranteed)

Looks like the talk of whether it will be Thigpen or Cassel as the Chiefs starting QB is being laid to rest today.

Kansas City Chiefs Sign Matt Cassel to a Long-TermContract - Arrowhead Pride

Details of the signing are yet to be announced but Lombardi's prediction of 36M Guaranteed over 6 years would seem possible - It should be announced later.

Good Luck Matt in KC,You will need it ....

I'm very happy for Cassel. And I'm sure Patriot fans will root for the guy - as long as he's not playing against the Pats, that is.

I agree, I know I'd love to see him succeed and be the franchise quarterback that the Chiefs have needed for a long time

good luck to him I say

Excellent, I love it when a former Pat (in good standing) makes good.

Congrats to Matt. The Chiefs are my new second-favorite team in the NFL. And considering that Bernard Pollard's a starting safety for them, that's saying something...

ESPN is now reporting that it's a 6 year, 63 million dollar deal with 28 million guaranteed.

PFT is stressing that it is more than the deal Brady signed a few years back. I figure Brady will be making at least $15 million a year on his next contract.

Less than what was reported by Mike Lombardi, but still a very good deal. I have to admit I was wrong that they wouldn't do a deal until after the season starts though.

Cassel is one ex-Pat who's easy to root for. Not only did he exceed expectations here and always say the right thing, but his continued success should be an inspiration for other Pats long shots: trust your coaches, work your butt off, and big things can happen.

Absolutely! Love rooting for the guy who helped another injury ridden Pats squad to 11 wins, ESPECIALLY after 3/4ths of Patsfans posters polled here in Aug '08 saw him as a CUT from the 53 and the vituperation continued so much that Ian had to create a special Forum mostly because of 'fans' ripping Cassel.

I'm sure that Pats management intends to use Cassel's $ucce$$ as a motivator and calming influence with young ambitious players.
