Default FRITZ Vegas trip

I spent the week in Vegas for work. i never got to the tables to bet, but I did get to the Sports Book to put $100 on the NEP to win the SB.

Pats 9:2 (4.5:1)
Steelers 6:1

While I was standing there, the news broke on the Cutler trade. The Bears were 10:1 to win the NFC at the time, and I sensed an quick arbitrage opportunity to bet before Vegas changed the odds. But I didnt - who really cares about da Bears. LOL

If there had been odds on betting that the NEP would go undefeated, I woulda bet that.

What do you think? Should NEP be favored over the hated Steelers?
Are the Bears a real good bet to win the NFC?

- Back home in Boston,
FRITZ

I'll frequently bet futures as well, one of the keys is to shop around. Go to several different sports books in Vegas to find the best odds, if you don't mind tying up a couple hours throughout your day. You'd be surprised how much the odds will vary.

One way to look at a futures bet like that is ask yourself this - "If the NFL played out the 2009 season 4 different times, would the Pats win the Super Bowl at least once?". If you can confidently say yes, then getting 9/2 odds on the Pats is, in your opinion, a "value" bet.

As far as the Bears goes for winning the NFC, I think those are OK odds. Not a ton of value there, and they're not even a slam dunk to win their division. However, if you're confident that they'll get into the playoffs then it could turn into a "value" bet. Ideally, you really just need them to get into the NFC Championship game, and then you could just bet against yourself in order to hedge your bet.

I was in LV (for work) last Monday to Thursday. Stayed in the Mandalay Bay (THE Hotel). Dang, wish I could have met a fellow patsfanner.

I was a huge winner: $40 playing black jack.

haha nice. Keep at it and you will have enough to buy the Patriots franchise someday.

The amazing thing is I won that much in only 40 minutes. So if I play again for about 100 million minutes, I'll have a shot.

That's how I roll...

There did appear to be an inordinate amount of losers there.

I went to Vegas once in the early 90s and lost my $50 (OK, I'm a thrifty Scot) in just a few minutes. It was out of curiosity as I have zero interest in Vegas style games of chance. I did enjoy watching the hordes of people in their mid 50s wearing clothes 10-20 years out of date acting as if they were kids in Disneyland.

Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
