View Poll Results: Is Maroney officially a Bust Yet?
I still have hopes for LoMo, but not quite what they were when we drafted him. Like most, I thought he'd be a 20-25 carries per game and 1,000 yard rusher, but I think that ship has sailed, hence the reason BB carries 4 RB on the roster. I would love to be proven wrong this year, but I doubt he can stay healthy for a full season.

I think the people who say "wait until the end of this year" are being a little too optimistic.
Unlike QBs and WRs, RBs are expected to produce earlier in their careers as opposed to the latter years. Maroney was a first round pick and his production has not even come close to the expectations set by a first round running back. He just seems to lack the vision to break some long runs.

....I also want to add that as a first round pick, you expect someone special. Did we suffer any when Maroney was lost for the season last year? No, not at all, because he can effectively be replaced by Sammy Morris. Therefore, he is not special, he is 'just another guy', and hence a bust.

I Just hope were not saying the same thing next year, and the year after.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Hart Lee Dykes is the future of the New England Patriots.
Okay I kid because I love. Maroney is a bust when BB says he is. That said it's nice to have Fred around.

Right, but do you think BB would've used a 1st round pick on a guy he gets part-time contributions out of? The whole thing gets me thinking how much better BB is at picking defensive players high in the draft than offensive.
I think he will have a good year. Coming off the injury he has had a lot of time to rest. Hopefully thru training camp he will show some promise and have a stellar year.
He's been disappointing, sure, but he's young, talented, doesn't cost much, and has flashed some real potential when he's on the field. Not exactly what you want from a first round pick, but not exactly bust-worthy.
Exactly correct. I think Maroney and Ben Watson are pretty much the same - they haven't been busts, but they haven't lived up to their potential or to what we've come to expect from Pats 1st round picks. Partly we've been somewhat spoiled by Seymour, Warren, Wilfork, Mankins, Mayo, and (probably) Meriweather. Maroney definitely dances too much, isn't as tough as I'd like, and has had some injuries. But, "he's young, talented, doesn't cost much, and has flashed some real potential when he's on the field." Couldn't say it any better.
We have him for 2 more years and my guess is he stays as a cost-effective piece of our RB by committee. If he doesn't show more consistency and production, then I likely see us looking for a replacement in the next 2 years.

Well put on all counts. Once you draft them, it doesn't matter where they were selected. Use them for tyheir talents then reevaluate at contract time.
