Default Pats Offseason Review - Free agency

Ok - Free Agency is upon us. A LOT has happened since I last posted my off-season reviews.

Scott Pioli is gone to KC to be their new GM. McDaniels is now the Head Coach in Denver and Dom Capers joined him to be their DC. Brad Seeley us gone to Cleveland to be an Asst. HC/Special Teams Coordinator.. Mangurian is gone to Tampa to be their O-line coach. The Pats promoted Bill O’Brien to QB coach and he’s the unofficial OC if BB does the same with O’Brien that he did with McDaniels. Scott O’Brien was hired as the Special Teams coordinator. Chad O’Shea takes over as the WR coach. Shane Waldron takes over as the TE coach. Josh Boyer is the DBs coach. Jason Licht has been hired as the Director of Player Personnel.

The Pats have re-signed Eric Alexander, who was to be an RFA. They also signed Brad Listori (TE) and Tully Banta-Cain (OLB). Cain had been released by the 49ers.

UFA:
Matt Cassel – As was predicted, Cassel was franchised.

Potential places that Cassel could land include Detroit, Chicago, Tennessee, Minnesota, Seattle, St. Louis, NY Jets, San Francisco and Tampa Bay. However, Minnesota has traded for Sage Rosenfels. And Tampa Bay seems to be looking at Luke McCown as their new starter.

Rosevelt Colvin, LB - Colvin could be back on a try-out basis.
Heath Evans, FB – Evans has said he wants to retire as a Patriot.
Jabar Gaffney, WR-
Chris Hanson, P –

Rodney Harrison, SS –

Russ Hochstein, C/G/FB/TE –

Larry Izzo, LB -

Lamont Jordan, RB –
won’t be back in a Patriots Uniform. The Pats are looking at other options. They’ve had Fred Taylor in and rumors persist that Deuce McCallister was in town as well.

Deltha O'Neal, CB –
Lonnie Paxton, LS -

James Sanders, S –
Lewis Sanders, CB/S –

Junior Seau, LB –
Kenny Smith, DE -

Tank Williams, S –

Mike Wright, D –

Kelley Washington, WR – In a move that surprised many of us, Kelley Washington was released by the team.
Barry Stokes , OT – Spent the entire year on the IR after being injured in camp. Doubtful that he will be back.

RFA:

Wesley Britt, OT – Britt was once the Pats top reserve swing tackle. Now, he seems to be on his way out. Particularly with the development of Mark LaVoir, who quickly supplanted Britt in the OT depth chart. I don’t see the Patriots tying up over a million bucks for a #4/#5 tackle.

Eric Alexander, LB – has been re-signed to a one year deal.

Pierre Woods, LB – Speculation is that he'll be given a 2nd round tender.

The Pats current roster breakdown is this: (numbers only):
QBs - 4
RBs - 4

FB: - 0
WRs - 3
TEs - 3
OLs - 10
DLs - 6
LBs - 12
CBs - 4
S - 4
STs - 2
