Default Chad O'Shea to be named WR Coach

Access Vikings: Blog Archive Vikings lose another assistant

Excerpt:

Quote:
Chad O’Shea, who worked as an offensive assistant for the Vikings since 2006 and recently was promoted to also serve as assistant special teams coach, is expected to be named the wide receivers coach for the New England Patriots.
Apologies if this has already been posted.

So we're taking the offensive assistant from an offense that hasn't had a passing game since Moss was there and hiring him as our WR coach?

Well looking at their Quarterbacks since the Moss era I think its not hard to see why the passing game hasn't been there.

He probably asked out as soon as he was told that Sage Rosenfels would be the team's new QB.

So that shows he's a bad coach ? Maybe you could have asked the same question when we traded a #1 pick for a HC with a career losing record.

no, I didn't say that. I inferred this question: what success has he possibly had with the vikings coaching WR's? And i guess before I let any bashing begin, let me say I realize I'm judging this simply on the performance of their passing game and not on any background knowledge that I'm sure BB has.

It's difficult to judge that, there hasn't been much talent on the WR group - they got a good season out of Bernard Berrian when he wasn't struggling with his turf toe - he averaged over 20 YPC last year. Of note, he wasn't their WR coach but he was an offensive assistant so it's basically impossible to judge.

Obviously, none of us has any idea about the talents of a junior coaching assistant for the Vikings. So let's ask the obvious question: what's the six degrees of separation here? Can anybody connect the dots of who might have recommended him to BB & co?

O'Shea's resume:
College coach: Houston 1996-99, Southern Mississippi 2000-02. Pro coach: Kansas City Chiefs 2004-05, joined Vikings in 2006.

QB coach Bill O'Brien was the OC of Duke before he came here . . . and Duke's O was an absolute joke.

So I ask again, why do you think he is now our WR's coach when he has no especially successful credentials. (Yes, I realize the same could be said of BB when he first came in...and it can be said with a lot of other guys). I'm not claiming he's a bad coach, I'm just wondering why the heck he's here.
