Borges is using at best extremely weak links in this implication, and at worst outright disregard for the truth. I didn't click the link to the full Herald article, but here's what was in BSMW:

Quote:
I’m curious though, what Borges means by this statement:
Football is different from baseball and these days no one is happier about that than guys like Larry Izzo, Rodney Harrison and Tom Brady.
We know what the Izzo and Harrison references are for, but is he implying that he has knowledge that Tom Brady has taken steroids or HGH (perhaps during his recovery)? If so, that’s a pretty casual way to drop something that would be a mega-bombshell. Or does he mean that the NFL allows him to use substances in his recovery that MLB would not? If he means something else, why not say so? Or is Brady merely guilty by association?
(Update - see comment section below for likely explanation.)
  • Quote:
    • Tom says:
the only thing I can think of with the Borges reference is didn’t it come out that Brady had talked to Bonds’ trainer or something at one point? I don’t remember the details and it turned out to be nothing, but that’s the only thing I can think of that Borges is referencing.
    Quote:

    • Rick Mc says:

    • Yes, Anderson or somebody else linked to Barry approached Brady, but Brady turned him down.
So in other words, at one time Brady's name was brought up with Balco, it turned out there was nothing there - and now Borges is implying he's connected. Of course, since Borges didn't come right out and say it, he can conveniently say "I never said that." But if that's the case Ron, then what exactly did you mean with the comment about Brady? That thanks to A-Rod he's no longer the focus of the paparazzi and TMZ?

Yeah, right; Brady's been out of the tabloids for quite a while.

that is really a sensitive topic, I hope Borges is not putting more dirt on the pats.. We know he was a Bledsoe guy for a very long time, and was in his corner before Brady..

Comparing taking steriods to become a better player and steriods to heal a major injury shouldnt be done. Guys should be allowed to take steriods to get over major injuries.

Borges is garbage, and what a shock he's writing for the Herald. Why am I not surprised. Trash belongs with Trash.

I lose more and more respect for the media everyday.

But that's not even the case here.

I know, im just talking in general. On one hand its a guy trying to get an unfair advantage, on the other hand its a guy trying to save his career from being ended by a big injury.

I know, I just think Borges was a bit out of line with his implication. There was a genuine story to write, and no valid reason to bring Brady's name in to it. I'd really like to hear somebody ask Borges what he meant by that.

I get the feeling that Borges meant to implicate Brady if possible. Uggh, how would you react if the press starts going after Brady?

That's actually a very good point. Steroids are legitimate medicine with a legitimate limited purpose.

They should be available through the team doctor and he should disclose who is being treated, and when treatment ends. Player should be ineligible for some period of time in addition to treatment time. A guy on the IR all year should be able to do them during that season on IR.

As I understand it, other than pain control, steroids are the main treatment for burn patients - if you burn off the skin on one arm (lets say rescuing a baby, a puppy, and I dunno, Mother Theresa,) you can't tell me the League has to insist that you go through extra weeks of unabating pain just to keep their "competitive balance."

But sadly that's not the rule.
