This guy is a horrible writer, all of his articles are anti-Patriots propaganda trash to cause a stir in Pats fans and I refuse to read anything by him.
Let me guess this article is about how the Patriots didn't make the Super Bowl this year, groundbreaking.
This guy is just revolutionary. What an amazing subject he has uncovered. Not clicking - I value Tomase's opinion more than this hacks.

I thought it was pretty good... the only real argument was we were peaking and building up to the playoffs, that we had the momentum. But that's a far cry from, say, beating the Steelers -- we weren't able to in the regular season, after all.
Plenty of counterarguments (i.e., we always win in the playoffs when we lose in the regular season, we had momentum, blah blah blah,) but realistically (if we can use that word to describe woulda-coulda-shoulda arguments,) the Pats exceeded expectations by going 11-5, and probably would not be playing this Sunday even had the playoff formulas been different.
Sure it's like an unnecessary icewater shower to read this in print, but who cares at this point. It's scouting time and contracts time in NE, not game time. Happens to 30 teams every year, right?
Don't care for Massarotti but the article isn't all that bad. He's just saying that those who are saying the Patriots should be in the SB need to take their homer glasses off. The thing is, I didn't get the feeling that there were very many that thought that at all. There was bit of reaction when the team missed the playoffs on the tiebreaker, but a certain amount of that is to be expected - just like fans of any team yelling at the ref when a flag is thrown against their team.
This may be in part a response to the article that was in Slate by a writer for Boston Globe magazine that stated the opinion that 'The Cardinals' presence in the Super Bowl is fluky and disgraceful.' Unfortunately as a result of that piece, some around the country have jumped to the conclusion that Pats fans collectively are whining about how the season and playoffs have turned out and think the Pats should be in the SB.

And the Cardinals went 0-4 against NFC playoff teams in the regular season.

It's homer-like to believe that a team with a top 8 offense and defense that was peaking in December and had a QB getting better every week would be able to win 3 more games?

I wouldn't equate a common occurrence in every single game to something that has never happened before. (An 11-5 team missing the playoffs with a 6 team per conference format)

I disagree with those who think this article is okay.
The problem with it is that its not simply an article saying the Pats dont deserve to be in the playoffs and arent a SB team.
Rather the article is about calling Pats fans idiot homers if they disagree with this point.
This article could have easily been written simply as an assessment of the team, and not as a commentary / reaction to Pats fans.
Also, I I agree with Disco, and dont understand what is wrong with a fan being upset that their team didnt make the playoffs, especially when that team was 11-5. If you are not upset at all, then you're not a fan.
Finally, its ludicrous to say that the Pats would have had no chance if they did make it. Even if you dont think they were very good, fluky things happen in single elimination tournaments. The so called and supposed "best teams" heading into the playoffs have rarely won it all over the past 10 years.
And, come on, the Patriots would have atleast been a dangerous team - -and I'm certain that Vegas odds would have considered them as such.
I hate Massaroti because he portrays himself as better than the average fan. He seems to view himself as intelligent and unbiased, while fans are supposedly blind and ignorant. That is a very smug and elitist view. Moreover, he is the one who is usually wrong, and writes useless drivel.
I went against my better judgment and clicked it, and saw this right off the bat...
He's a troll who gets paid. Disgusting.
How anyone can find the above "alright" or "decent" is beyond me.
And remember folks, if you think the Patriots could of made the Super Bowl this year you're a hallucinating demented card-carrying Belichicklet.
All anyone has to do to shut him down is ask who's representing the NFC. There's really no sense in worrying about these writers.

This guy stinks. He wrote an article hammering the Sox for not treating Tek better. They just paid him $40 mill and offered him 10 mill in arbitration, which he declined.....and this clown hammers the Sox, just like he tries to do to Pats. The Globe has really gone down hill....Thanks God for Reiss - even though he is probably too pro-Pats, he gives us information and doesn't try to get attention by writing crap just to stir the pot....
[ Massarotti] is saying that those who are saying the Patriots should be in the SB need to take their homer glasses off. The thing is, I didn't get the feeling that there were very many that thought that at all.
If there was any hint of a sentiment in Patriots Nation that the Pats got screwed out of the playoffs AND should be playing in the Super Bowl, don't you think there would have been a thread or two on Patsfans.com?
Its a legit gripe to question a playoff system where 8 and 9 win teams can host a playoff game AND draft ahead of teams that finish 11-5, but I don't recall anyone on this board claiming that we would have been the de facto AFC champs had we gotten into the playoffs.
Massarotti's new journalistic formula is to write articles aimed at intentionally pissing off patriots fans. Congratulations Tony, you've got us talking about your piece of **** article.
