Default Where is Cassel's most likely landing spot in 2009

I am curious to where people think Cassel will land next year. My gut tells me the Pats are going to tag and trade since it makes sense as long as they can do it without cutting players to be under the cap.

My guess is San Francisco is the most logical landing destination. Why.

1. The Pats are going to do everything to keep Cassel out of NYJ and MIA.

2. The teams with high first round draft picks are going to go after the bumper crop of college QB's coming out like Sam Bradford. SF will likely pick after these guys are gone leaving them in the cold. The perceived value is Cassel can play ASAP and fill a glaring hole.

In addition, the Pats would welcome a pick outside the top 10 to avoid big signing bonuses like they did with Mayo last year.

3. SF wants to win now with Singletary with the coach and the big FA's they signed in recent years. They have played well down the stretch despite having poor QB play.

4. Cassel is a west coast guy and wants to be closer to home.

What about Da Bears? I heard they're not very happy with Orton.

Washington redskins? Cassel could be throwing to another moss.

I would not be at all surprised to see Matt Cassel in a Patriots uniform next year. He is the ultimate insurance policy at this point, just in case.

If the rest of the nfl was smart and decided to wait out the patriots and not give a 1st round pick for Cassel, then most likely the Detroit lions will give their 2nd round pick for Cassel. The patriots will probally take the 2nd round from the Detroit lions.

That would be awesome. We would have two picks in a row and Cassel would be responsible for both of them!!!!!!

If Brady is a question mark, Cassel will be in New England next year. If Brady is not really considered a question mark by Belioli, I'd expect there to be interest from more than one team in the group of:

Detroit
Minnesota
Chicago
San Francisco
Tampa
St. Louis

There are other teams that I could see pondering making a move (Seattle, K.C.), but i'd expect that the likelihood would be dependent upon who was coaching/GMing.

I don't think that there are enough draft picks in the world to get the Patriots to trade him to the Jets or Dolphins.

Willingly, yes. But it only costs two firsts if the JEST or LOLphins sign him to an offer sheet. Then again, I think the LOLphins are happy enough with Pennington; they have him signed through next year for about $6M a year. The JEST, though. . . .

I expect that New England would use the exclusive tag if Belioli were to think that the Jets or Dolphins would sign Cassel to that sheet.
