Default Quick Shout Out to Gostkowski

Ok, so every kickoff wasn't in the end zone last nite and the Pats gave up a TD on a kick. But, as consistent as Gostkowski has been for us, he hasn't had the opportunity to kick in a lot of big spots. But he drilled a 47 yarder last nite to tie the game at 24, drilled the XP for the tie at 31, and put the OT kickoff into the end zone for a touchback. Those were big spots, and he came up aces in all 3. Kudos to our kicker, I have to believe the coaching staff is getting the same confidence I have in trotting him out in big spots the rest of this year and in future seasons.

For most of the game his kickoffs were Viniateri weak. Balloons that dropped to earth at the 10 or 12. I wondered if his leg was bothering him. Then he boomed that touchback in OT. Very impressive as there wasn't much wind at all.

Hopefully he was going for hang time against a strong returned - didn't work if so. Gotti is only signed through next year btw, not sure if he'll be a RFA or UFA.

If the salary cap goes away, he's an RFA. If the salary cap remains, he should be a UFA.

Either way, I wouldn't mind seeing him extended this off-season.

Definitely, he's part of the solution not part of the problem.

To give you an idea of how strong his leg is right now . . . go back and watch that 47-yarder again. The ball had just reached its peak as it crossed the uprights.

That kickoff in OT was amazing. I was dreading having to watch another Washington return, but MG did his job. Pro Bowl type season from the kid. Definite bright spot.

Gutz? Hehe. I'm starting to think most people think everyone on the team's first name is Matt.

This past week I heard "Matt Kaczur". LOL

The way the kickoff team is covering the returner, the Pats

better give Gostkowski a seminar on open field tackling.
