Default What if Brady starts next year as a PUPPY?

I know we don't want to think about it and recent history shows he should be ready to go. But if it happened, how would we handle our QB situation then?

Start the season with Kevin? Be hard to sign a vet to only play for six weeks.

There's no need to respond arguing the validity of the concern. The thread is for the purpose of a "what-if" conversation, that's all.

How long do we have to find a way to keep Cassel around with shelling out mondo casheroni?

I suppose if the season fall apart and Kevin gets reps, he's the best option in that scenario.

What if a meteor hits Gillette Monday and wipes out the squad? What will the league do? (Assuming Jonathan Kraft or some ownership still lives)

Listen, if it weren't for hypothetical talk around here there would be like 4 threads.

If Brady is on PUP at the start of the season, you have to proceed as if he will be out all season. That means Cassel or Vet unless BB thinks KC is ready to be a starter for next year.

Too early in this season to judge if Cassel would be that QB.

What if the team starts 5-1, with a vet, MC or KC? Do you bench him. Hard to sit someone who is 5-1. But also hard to tell a future HOF to hold the clip board.

Lets make this hypo even worse. MC goes 5-1, TB comes back but is less mobile and rusty team drops to 5-3. MC goes back in?

OK, so it's official fact, most of you guys aren't coping with Brady being gone. In any thread where I've suggested Brady may retire early (not next year or anything) or in a discussion like this, the answers are mostly sarcastic and stupid.

Do you guys have posters of Tom on the ceiling over your bed or something?

Every time we do a predict the score we play the what-if game, but bring up the sacred cow and half of you turn into snotty college kids with nothing useful to add to a conversation.

Well you're obsessive compulsive disorder comes into clear focus. You don't have to read my posts. Moreover, don't worry, I've got more than one computer.

Word is that the Pats expect him to be ready for minicamp. So baring a major setback, there doesn't seem to be much of a chance Brady starts on the PUP. Guys who had similiar or worse injuries later in the year like Philip Rivers and Carson Palmer didn't go on PUP the following season. So this thread is a hypothetical to the utmost degree at this point.

But for the sake of the argument, I agree with the idea that you approach the year as if Brady is done for the season. Odds are the Pats will bring in a veteran QB this offseason whether Brady is on schedule, ahead of schedule, or behind schedule. They will try to prepare O'Connell to be ready to start and have him compete with that veteran for the starting job.

Bringing in a veteran in February to try to replace Brady the following season is much different than doing it in September. It gives him plenty of time to learn the offense and get into rythm with the receivers and o-line.

My only things is on your "what ifs" is this team has sooooo many more right now than concerning oneself on one "what if" for next year.
