Comparing Jones to Chad Jackson is foolish because they are different types of players.
Jones is a return specialist. Chad Jackson, in college anyways, was a primary receiver.
I'll be honest, I am still baffeled by the cutting of Chad Jackson. I know that Reiss said that Jackson hadn't earned Brady's trust, but in fairness, neither was really on the field at the same time, so its hard for one to develop that sort of trust.
Last year was a lost year because the Pats put Jackson on the Kicking Coverage unit and Jackson blew out his knee against the Colts (AFCCG in January of 2007). Brady didn't play in a single pre-season game so he and Jackson couldn't develop the kind of trust that develops during game play. Cassel was trusting of Jackson.
But, enough of that. Jackson is gone. So is Jones.
Thanks for you honesty DaBruinz, alot of people here like to just say "Well, he suc*ed, he's an idiot, he's a bust", this and that. But the facts are still the facts and the guy really never had an opportunity due to injuries mainly to ever have a chance to develop a rapport with Brady. I'll stand by it, I think BB cut the kid too early. If it was done for financial reasons, then fine, but again, kid was making 649K, you invested a high 2cond round pick on him, atleast give him a chance this season and if he crapped the bed, then fine, send him packing, but atleast you can sleep at night knowing you found out and gave him a legitimate chance.

Chad Jackson is a terrible special teams player... THAT is why Eckel was brought back...to play special teams. I really doubt he will be back this year..MAYBE for TC next year..but??
If jackson was worth anything someone would have at least signed him to their practice squad. When Bill Belichick outright releases a first day draft pick like that, the league takes notice. And I dont mean they take notice in a good way towards him.

I wouldn't be 100% tossing him on the Psquad, if he's eligible. Maybe getting cut and not being claimed by anyone will get him in the right mindset to mold himself into the player that he has the potential to be. If not... whatever, not the Pats' problem.
i mean seriously, nobody has signed him yet, hes got some more tryouts but we could bring him back easily and give him the opportunity to play. What has Gaffney done so far? Uh nada.
There is a good reason why 31 other teams have passed on Chad, and it's the same reason we cut him. He just is not a NFL caliber player. All due respect to Chad.

What is it going to take for you to realize that he DIDN'T FIT IN HERE? Plain and simple. Call Belichick an idiot, whatever. But he ain't coming back and that's all there is to it.

Watch the first preseason game on tape. Watch him round off his cuts and telegraph his route. Watch him stop running because he evidently wasn't the primary receiver and watch teh ball get thrown to where he was. Watch Cassel rip into him for running the wrong route and watch he argue back. Lots of raw talent, unwilling to learn or be coached, is my guess.
Wasn't done for financial reasons.
Another good clue is that after the last preseason game, he was on WEEI bragging about what a playmaker he is and how he is faster than Moss. Think about how he might be acting in the locker room.
Add to that snippets we heard that he showed up for meetings without his playbook.
As far a cutting him too soon, you mean of course too soon for you, but based on what?
Don't you think that BB has a better handle on him? That seeing him every day and coaching him might give BB more insight into him than you?
Do you know something that BB doesn't/What do you know about him? That he did give the kid chances but you don't necessarily know what the chances were?
Guys are cut all the time without game experience. What makes Chad so special that he cannot be cut based on practices, coachabiilty and work ethic?
