Default PATs Red zone: 1 for 5 - anyone concerned?

Just to get back to reality for a moment.
It was fun to beat up the JETs ... but

This was the Jets and 1 TD in 5 red zone trips may be good enough to beat
the JETs, KC and Miami type teams but not good teams.
PATs need to get this offense scoring in the red zone.
I am hopeful but 20% efficiency in the Red Zone will get this
team killed against the better teams.

So all is not roses here. OK, back to celebrating a wonderful day
seeing the JETs and their Fans humiliated.

Not too worried at the moment. The next two games are against Miami and SF with a bye in between. They should be able to beat both of those teams and by then Matty should be more comfortable.

On the first drive he seemed to lock on to his receiver (Welker? Thomas?) ad just threw the ball a step too early or without enough touch on it. Also, the ball tipped by the Jet defender on the last drive was a great play that, with time and touch, Cassel will hopefully be able to drop into the hands of the open defender.

Let's give Matty some time to acclimate to the offense at game speed. We're 2-0 when nobody would bat an eyelash if we were 0-2 given the circumstances. I agree, they will need to be better, but the fact that we're winning as Matty is learning things at full speed makes me happy. As he gets more confident and comfortable, I would assume so will Josh and BB. What makes me happiest is, thus far, no turnovers from him in almost 2 full games, that's WAY better than being 4-5 red zone but with 3-4 turnovers. At least in my opinion.

In one game, I ain't concerned. If it turns into a trend, then I will get worried.

As a whole we need to do a better job in the redzone absolutely. From playcalling to execution, it wasn't a great day for redzone offense. I am confident that will get better though.

I think we'll get that fixed. But remember we need some games under Cassell's belt. I hope they are all wins, but after this, confidence builds up for him. Miami should be a next challenge, but our Defense should take care of them and have Cassell sorta "erector set" his confidence.

I believe they had 2 or was it 3 4th and 1's but passed them up for the conservative FG's, in future weeks i would like to see quarterback sneaks on 4th and 1. Not worried, ease Cassel into these things week to week.

YES
Throw it to Moss more. We won't beat the better teams with FG's.

Yards come at a premium in the red zone. The windows are smaller, defenses can send more pressure, and receivers have less room to maneuver. These things will exacerbate the problems faced by a young QB making his first start, so it's not surprising that the Pats O stalled in the red zone more than usual.

Cassel will be able to react faster and make better decisions as he gets more games under his belt, and with offensive talent around him, our red zone efficiency should come around when he does.
