Here’s what New England Patriots defensive back Christian Gonzalez had to say during his press conference on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

On how tough it is to sit with that injury, and how he’s feeling:

“Just came back to the field these last 2 days.  Yeah, I’m good. Good to be out here. So yeah.”

On, in terms of the contract, what he feels he’s worth:

“I mean, the [front] office knows what, what, how I feel.My team has made it known what we, what I feel, what I’m worth, what we feel, what I’m worth. So the right people know what I’m worth.”

On, just to clarify, just because there was speculation, if his absence totally injury-related, or if it was at all related to the contract:

“Yeah. I’m not going to get into that. I’m out here now. So it is what it is.”

On the fact that, when he doesn’t answer that, people are going to speculate whether, ‘Was it injury or was it [him] holding in because he didn’t want to compete in the joint practices and risk injury?’ And if he’s okay with them speculating by not answering:

“I mean, everything we do is speculated at the end of the day. I could say something, and then it’s still going to be speculated. So, I mean, it is what it is.”

On a lot of the talk during the Eagles joint practice from Eliot [Wolf] and Mike Vrabel was how they lauded the Eagles for drafting well, signing their guys, the blueprint’s there, and if it’s frustrating on his part that he doesn’t have a deal yet:

“I mean, it’s frustrating, but I mean, it’s, I’m focused on the season. I’m focused on here now and doing what I got to do. And I’m out here to compete and get better.”

On the fact he said before that he doesn’t really want to do this negotiation through the media. How important is it to him for both sides to keep things close to the vest:

“Yeah.  I mean, I feel like I’ve said that and it is what it is. I mean, I can’t really get into it. I mean, I’ve said I wanted to keep it between my team and the Patriots, and I mean, it’s been out there. So it is what it is, but can’t really go back in time. So we just got to focus on right now.”

On the fact he’s always seemed like a glass-half-full kind of guy, and if he’s optimistic even though it’s continued here to go on through camp, and if he’s still optimistic that he’ll be able to get something done here:

“I mean, I’m focused on week 1 at this point. I mean, it’s been all offseason. So like I said, like I feel like the word – the line of today ‘is it is what it is.’ So focused on week 1 and doing what I gotta do.

On if a deal isn’t reached by week 1, if he foresees his agent still negotiating with the team in the regular season:

“I mean, like I’ve said, I’m focused on being with week 1. I mean … we can let it land [the helicopter coming in the background]. We can let it land. Yeah, I probably called him in. No, but we’ll let him land and we’ll get back to it. I ain’t got that loud voice, y’all know.”

On if a deal isn’t reached by week 1, if his agent will still negotiate with the team in the regular season, or if there’s a strict deadline with this:

“I mean, like I’ve said, it’s been all offseason, but all I can focus on right now is what I do on the field, what I bring to this team, what I contribute, and go out there and make the plays that come my way.”

On if he’s prepared to play week 1 even if a deal is not reached:

“Yeah, I mean, I’m focused on today, on this practice. And see where we go from here.”

On the fact when he was out, he was seeing Charles Woods and Kindle Vildor specifically getting more opportunities and rep, and what he’s seen from those guys throughout camp specifically as it pertains to taking advantage of their opportunities on the field:

“Yeah, for sure. C. Woods is, he came in last year and, he does a really good job. He’s real smart, a real smart ball player. We move him around a lot, so he plays outside, he plays the slot, he can go back and play safety. So anytime you’re able to do multiple things, it brings a lot to the team. And, Kindle coming in, it’s been real cool to get to know him and pick his brain. I mean, he’s been in the league, he’s seen things. So, I mean, just seeing him go out there and make those 3 plays in a row in the Eagles game, those were some real cool plays. So, he brings good energy to the room. And it’s been cool getting to know him and see those guys go out there and make the plays when they come their way.”

On, from the Patriots side of things, Robert Kraft, Eliot Wolf earlier today, said that the offer they gave him would make him the highest-paid corner in the league, and if that was in every metric:

“I mean, there’s certain things that go into a contract that my team knows what we want. So it kind of depends how you put it.”

On if he feels like the team is holding up their end of the bargain by not negotiating through the media, they’re at least talking more about it than he is:

“I mean, I don’t know.”

On the fact Eliot said today that it felt like positive momentum, and if he’s getting that sense from his side of it:

“I mean, I’m focused on today, on this week. On today, this practice, week 1, and doing what I got to do for this team.”

On how supportive his teammates have been:

“Yeah, I mean, the guys, they’ve been there for sure about everything, about – I know I can go to them about if it’s contract things, if it’s family things, anything, I can go to the guys. I got a good group of guys around me. I trust them, and I’m around them every day. I’m around them so much. So, I mean, they’ve been supportive. They’ve talked to me. They’ve, been there. Everybody’s just been themselves, and I appreciate them. And those are my guys for sure.

On the fact that it seems like it’s been his best summer when he’s been on the field, and if he feels that way, and if there’s anything that’s been different for him this offseason:

“I don’t know. I mean, definitely the work I put in this offseason. I mean, I didn’t really change nothing. I mean, I’m still working with the same guy. I’m still kind of doing my same routine, but I mean, just coming out and being competitive. There’s people on the team that help it get a little more fun and a little more feisty. So just been having fun. So thank y’all.”
