In what has been a long, drawn-out negotiation, it looks like the New England Patriots finally have all of their rookies under contract.
According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Patriots reached an agreement with rookie Gabe Jacas on a contract, which will now hopefully move things forward in getting the rookie to Foxboro.
The 2026 Patriots’ second-round pick hasn’t been present thus far as the two sides had continued negotiating, with Vrabel saying during his press conference on Saturday that there wasn’t anything new to report and, when asked if Jacas was local, Vrabel said, “I do not think that Gabe is local. I don’t think that he’s in New England.”
It looks like he might finally be on his way.
The news came shortly after Mike Reiss had reported that “significant progress” had been made with the rookie, and the signing, which Schultz reports is a four-year, $8.6M contract, now ends that standoff.
This comes one day after Vrabel had said the team wasn’t willing to put a timeline on the rookie’s situation, and he was hoping to have him in the fold in the near future.
“Well, continuing to work through the contract,” said Vrabel. “I think that those have been positive, obviously, between the club and his representative. And, hopefully, we’ll get him in here sooner rather than later.”
When asked how long he thought it might be before an agreement was reached, Vrabel wouldn’t speculate.
“We’re not going to put a timeline on it or a timeframe,” said Vrabel. “But, spoken to Gabe personally. And again, excited to get him in when he’s under contract.”
Fortunately, Vrabel has now gotten his wish and the work will hopefully begin soon.
