Here’s what New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte had to say as he spoke to reporters on Tuesday, June 9th, 2026.
On what he wants to happen with him this season after the team added a couple of guys who might cut into his workload, and the fact he’s entering what will be a contract year:
“Yeah. I mean, I wouldn’t mind being here. I do want to be here, obviously. But I mean, at the end of the day, like I said, I do want to be here. So whether that’s X, Z, F, like just whatever I got to do that’s best for me, you know? So whether it’s learning the playbook more, moving around, I mean, it’s only one football, it’s 5 of us, you know? But that’s football at the end of the day. You don’t know who it’s going to. So I mean, obviously learning the playbooks, different positions, I hope at the end of the day.”
On the fact he’s been really productive with the opportunities he’s been given and if it’s hard for him to see guys coming in and say, ‘Now it’s going to be harder for me to get the reps that I’m hoping to get?’
“Honestly, no. Just keep doing what I was doing. The ball find me, make plays. You rarely see me drop the football. So I mean, every opportunity I get, make the best of it.”
On if missing OTAs was related to his contract or trade rumors:
“No, it was just a personal decision. At the end of the day, that was voluntary. I mean, Mandatory, I’m here now, so that’s it.”
On how he feels about playing on his existing contract:
“I mean, it’s something I gotta do. If that’s what I gotta do, I gotta do it. At the end of the day, I can’t control it.”
On all the moves that were made in the wide receiver room, and looking at the team getting better offensively, but also a more crowded wide receiver room, how he balances those two ideas:
“It’s been getting crowded every year. We find ourselves in the same position at the beginning of every season, every offseason. But I mean, at the end of the day, still gotta come and training camp and fight. No spot is given, no matter who it is. So I mean, at the end of the day, still gotta come out and perform.”
On his thoughts on the additions of Romeo [Doubs] and A.J. [Brown] specifically:
“Romeo, cool. You know, I seen him play the slot a little bit, outside a little bit. I watched the Packers versus Bears game. He’s a cool receiver. And A.J., I mean, y’all see what I see. All the 50/50 balls is really 100/0 with him. Big body receiver, can win any matchup on the field. So gotta love both of ’em.”
On showing up today, if there were any conversations with Mike [Vrabel] or anybody:
“No, I mean, it’s football at the end of the day. Come in, do what I’m supposed to do, sit in meetings, learn what I need to learn to execute out here.”
On how much confidence he has in himself to play other positions:
“I mean, I did it last year. I mean, it’s pretty simple. I mean, offense the same as last year. So I mean, I didn’t really miss nothing.
On what it’s been like to have 2 years with Josh [McDaniels] and have that consistency, continuity for two seasons:
“I think it’s cool. I’ve been in a different offense since my first year at LSU, so six years straight. So this is the first time I really get to go back into the same offense. So same terminology, same everything. So it’s a smooth transition.”
On if he’s spoken to anyone on the team about the trade rumors?
“I mean, no. Nobody on the team really could control that. At the end of the day, it’s about me, not nobody else.”
On if it’s hard from a mental standpoint to see his name when it pops up:
“Not really. I mean, at the end of the day, it is going to be what’s best for me, whether it’s here or somewhere else. I hope it’s here. I want to be here, but we’ll see how it goes.”
On what ist it about here that makes him want to stay with the Patriots, stay with this organization:
“I love everybody. Vrabe’s and them came in, great game plan. We got some great teammates. We built a great bond last year. The community, great. I’ve been here the past 3 years, so it’s been good.”
On the fact A.J. has played a lot of X’s, he’s played a lot of X, and if he feels like he’ll have a fair shot at contributing the way he’d like to contribute this upcoming season:
“Yeah, I’ll say all opportunities that do come to me, like I said, I gotta make the best of ’em.”
On the fact Drake [Maye] mentioned how being in this offense for the second year in a row is going to allow him to continue to grow in the system, and if there are any ways he feels like he can take his game to the next level now that he has more familiarity with the system:
“I would say, yeah. He said – like you said – second year in the offense, you gonna kind of get familiar with it. Last year was a learning experience. So it’s really the same things as last year. You could tweak a little different things, whether it’s quarterback, receiver, running back. So I mean, it’ll help everybody.”
On the fact he mentioned the decision to not go to OTAs was personal, and if part of that is because he feels like he’s proven yourself here, and yet now they’re adding other receivers and positions …
“No, I mean, it’s, it’s really not none of that. I mean, I’m here today, so that’s, that’s my focus.”
On if [the Patriots] have shown any willingness to bump up his pay:
“Uh, that’s, that’s above my pay grade. You know, my agent really handled that. I can’t tell you.”
