Here’s what New England Patriots defensive back Christian Gonzalez had to say during his interview with reporters on Tuesday, June 9th, 2026.

On where he’s at as far as coming here, and what he’s thinking contract-wise, at this point?

“Yeah, I mean, I got obligations. I’m here.”

On if he’s confident that he’ll be able to take part in training camp?

“Training camp, I’m not worried about that. I mean, we’re in mandatory minicamp right now, so that’s what we’re focused on this weekend, is that.”

On if he feels like progress is being made in the negotiations to get something done:

“I mean, that’s, I hope. That’s up to my agents and the team, and I hope we get something done.”

On if he took the serious decision to skip OTAs:

“I felt like I could get my work in. I mean, I was able to talk to the coaches and we talked talked about it and got some work in. So, yeah.”

On if anything has changed, and if he wants to remain a Patriot for the rest of his career:

“Yeah, for sure.  Of course I want to be here. I’ve said this multiple times, I’ve been drafted here. I want to be rewarded as a Patriot. And this is— I love this town, I love this city. So, yeah, of course I want to be here.”

On his reaction to the trade of A.J. Brown, and if he can take [the media] through that and having him at his celebrity basketball tournament:

“Yeah, for sure. A.J.’s a great guy. I mean, we’ve been able to keep in contact – talk throughout the past 3 years. Anytime he’s hit me up – told me keep my head on straight. He’s a great guy and a great teammate. I’m excited for him to be a part of this team and what he’s gonna bring. And he’s the ultimate competitor. So I’m excited. He’s got a little hoop skills in him. He was out there playing pretty good. It was awesome for him to show up.”

On having covered guys of his caliber, what is it about him that makes him such a talented wide receiver:

“Yeah, just, he can do everything. He’s got the size, he’s got the speed, he’s got the route running. He’s in what, I think year 8, 7, 8, around there. So he’s seen a lot of ball. He’s played a lot of ball. He’s very smart. And I mean, that’s, anything you want in a receiver. So like I said, excited that he’s here.”

On if based on the conversations he’s had with his agency, if he’s optimistic that they will be able to get a deal done soon:

“I hope so.”

On if he feels like there’s optimism:

“I mean, that’s— it’s between them two. I mean, both sides to get it done. And like I said, I want to be here. So that’s what I’m gonna say.”

On the fact there’s been some speculation that if Devin Witherspoon goes to Seattle, they could do the same representation that one of you might be waiting for the other one to go first. Is that something that he has his eye on, at least what’s going on in Seattle:

“Nah, other than just talking to Spoon, that’s my guy. I mean, we trained together. We came up together, same class. I mean, that’s my guy. A couple of days ago, we probably talked, we talked a good amount. So, but not even about contract stuff. We just talk, check in on each other, see how each other are doing and, just catch up.”

On if it’s important to him at this point to be set to market or to be behind the contract:

“You know, that’s another question that is between my agents and the Patriots and that team and what they value me at. So, yeah.”

On if it’s on what he values himself:

“I mean, like I said, it’s between the two sides.”

On if the decision to miss OTAs is one that he makes or one that his agent sort of advises, ‘Hey, the best thing you should do right now is just not go’

“No, I mean, we’re all grown men. This is a grown men profession. We talked about it, and that’s what it is.”

On if he has a deadline in mind:

“I mean, I feel like that’s more of my team kind of got something on that. I’m not really sure.”

On if he’d play this season without a new contract:

“We got a long time to the season, so we’ve … Still pretty early in the offseason. So, I’m focused on being here for the team and doing my role and what I’m here for this weekend and focused on that.”

“Appreciate y’all.”
