Not an Easy Stretch, But 2025 Patriots Schedule Favors Success

The league unveiled the full 2025 NFL Schedule Wednesday night, which will see a slate of games that, for the most part, favors Mike Vrabel’s football team.

Looking at how the 2025 Patriots Schedule unfolds, the league kicks things off with a showdown to open the season against Josh McDaniels’ former club, the Las Vegas Raiders, who will visit Gillette Stadium in Week 1.

The streak of not opening up against Miami continues, with the league having had those two clubs battle it out to start the season for three straight years from 2020 through 2022. The previous two seasons saw the Eagles visit Foxboro (2023), with the Patriots starting last year on the road in Cincinnati.

However, the schedule makers do deal New England the tough task of heading to Miami in September, with the club heading to South Florida in Week 2. The heat in Miami is always a factor during that time of year, with the last early September match-up in Miami back in 2022 – the team’s season opener – resulting in a 20-7 loss.

But after that game, the Patriots do get a little bit of a reprieve. They’re home for two straight weeks, with visits by both Pittsburgh and Carolina on tap to finish out September.

From there, the Patriots have what is arguably their most difficult stretch of the season. They play three straight away games, with a Sunday Night game against the Bills up first in Week 5, followed by a trip to New Orleans, and then Tennessee. The match-up against the Titans should be interesting, as it’s a sort of homecoming for Vrabel, who most fans down there still appreciate and seem to lament his firing.

As a result, whether Vrabel wants to admit it or not, there will likely be some added motivation behind this one.

After that game, the Patriots are back at Gillette Stadium for two more weeks, with match-ups against the Browns and Falcons up next. They then head to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers, before having to turn around on a short week and play the Jets in what will be their lone Thursday night game of 2025.

However, if they can have success during that stretch, that provides the club with a bit of a break, since it essentially gives them a mini-bye with 10 days off before heading to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals.

Then the players are back in Foxboro for the next three weeks, starting with a Monday night game against the Giants to kick off December, with their bye finally arriving the following week in Week 14. After that, they play the Bills in what will likely be a game with some meaning, depending on where both clubs are in the AFC East standings.

From there, they’re on the road for two weeks, with a trip to both Baltimore and the Jets up next. The game against the Ravens could hold some significance, as it will likely have implications for Baltimore in terms of where they stand in the AFC playoff picture, and if New England is in contention for a playoff birth, this would be a fun one to pull off an upset in front of the Ravens faithful.

As we know, that place is always crazy, and it would be fun to send them all home unhappy.

The Patriots then head to MetLife Stadium for their final match-up of the year against the Jets, followed by a showdown to close out the season against the Dolphins. The finale’s date and start time, like that final NFL week has been in recent seasons, is still to be determined.

All in all, it’s certainly less of a gauntlet than what this team faced a year ago. They’ll be in the spotlight for three primetime appearances that include a showing on Sunday Night Football, Thursday Night Football, and Monday Night Football. But aside from that, nearly all of their games have a 1:00 pm start time, with a lone 4:25 pm start slated for their trip to New Orleans in Week 6.

Three of their first four games also come at home, which could allow them to get off to a good start and provide some momentum ahead of what will likely be a big test in Buffalo in that Week 5 Sunday Night match-up.

However, if they can pull off a win there and then follow it up with a win in New Orleans and down in Tennessee, they should be in terrific shape heading into the middle part of the season, especially with a two game home stand against both Cleveland and Atlanta.

As for the preseason, the club will play at home against the Commanders in what will be the lone exhibition game at Gillette Stadium on August 7th. They’ll then travel to Minnesota on August 16th for an unusual 1:00 pm Saturday game, and then they’ll close things out on the road against the Giants on August 21st.

Vrabel already hinted that there will potentially be joint practices held against both Washington and the Vikings.

“Still waiting for the NFL, but have had conversations with Minnesota,” said Vrabel during the coaches breakfast back in March. “Washington, I think, would like to come up. We’d love to go to Minnesota if the NFL gives it those opportunities.”
