2025 Patriots Draft: New England Adds a DT in Round 4

The New England Patriots added another defensive player on Saturday, this time targeting the defensive line when they made their second selection of the afternoon.
With pick #137 in round four, the Patriots selected Florida State defensive tackle Joshua Farmer, adding depth to a defensive line that still has some question marks.
New England signed Philadelphia Eagles free agent Milton Williams this offseason, but there are still some questions about the health of Christian Barmore. Barmore, who signed an extension last offseason but sat out most of 2024 with a blood clot diagnosis, has been in Foxboro working out this offseason but his health status is still unknown.
The early chatter about his health has been positive. But having suffered a setback after attempting a return late last season, it’s not necessarily a given he’ll be 100% healthy for the season. The hope is that he’ll make a full recovery, but adding Farmer injects some youth into a unit that also saw Davon Godchaux traded to the Saints earlier this offseason.
As for Farmer, the 6’3″, 305 standout from FSU played all four years for the Seminoles, tallying 79 tackles, 11 sacks, and 21 tackles for a loss over 42 games. He also put up a 5.11 40-yard dash at the Combine.
Farmer certainly has plenty to prove. He came into last season with a lot of confidence, believing that he would be a first-round selection. Instead, he’s a fourth-round pick who is heading to a team where he’ll now have an opportunity to carve out a role for himself at the next level here in New England.
