Here’s a transcript of Drake Maye’s recent appearance in an interview on Sirius XM Radio:
DM: “When they rolled me out to start, I think week 6, it was just to see if I could go. And fortunately, made some plays, and hopefully got some good things coming, hopefully up in New England. We got a great fan base, and we’re figuring it out. We got some more games to win, but it was a great learning experience this year.”
XM: Now you have an offensive coordinator heading back there. If you haven’t heard, he did some pretty good things with a guy by the name of Tom Brady, with Josh McDaniels coming back to be your offensive coordinator. Have you had any communication with him and have you studied any of those offenses that he did with Tom?
“Yes, ma’am. For sure, Coach McDaniels, obviously, what he’s done there and the success he’s had. Fortunate to be able to have a guy come in who’s done it at a high level and learn from him coaching one of the best ever and the best ever, in my opinion, Tom. Got a great chance to go back and all those years of film you have in a little database, it’s all their play calls and all Coach McDaniels’ stuff and what he did with Tom. It’s fortunate for me to go back and study it up and get ready for this next season.”
XM: Not a lot players, especially young players, have the opportunity to be coached as a head coach by a Super Bowl champion and one of the grittier players that played the game over the past couple of decades, Mike Vrabel. What is your impression of Coach Vrabel so far?
“Yeah, he reached out to me and we got on the phone. He’s been awesome. Obviously, a guy who’s done it and played in the league and won a Super Bowl, you have a respect of what he’s done and seeing what he’s done. I think the biggest thing is he’s been a head coach and he knows what it’s like. So excited to get up to New England and get things going.”
