The New England Patriots have been active when it comes to reshaping various positions on its roster, and it appears they’re making another move at receiver.
Despite reports that the club was looking to trade DeVante Parker, it sounds like there were no takers for his services. So instead, Adam Schefter reports they’ve informed him they’ll be releasing him, allowing him to begin shopping his services ahead of free agency.
Parker is just eight months removed from receiving an extension from the club, which happened last offseason amid rumors that New England was potentially interested in acquiring DeAndre Hopkins. Instead, Hopkins ultimately ended up in Tennessee, while Parker ended up with a three-year extension and certainly didn’t provide the impact Hopkins would have.
Hopkins finished the season with 75 catches for 1057 yards and seven touchdowns, while Parker finished with just 33 receptions for 394 yards and no touchdowns.
The most mind-blowing statistic is the fact that Parker was virtually not a scoring threat, finishing the year as the only Patriots receiver without a target in the red zone in all of 2023.
For now, the Patriots are clearly trying to revamp their receiving corps, albeit it’s unclear what they have in mind. They just extended Kendrick Bourne, and some believe they could be in the running for Calvin Ridley, with the Jaguars having already added Bills wideout Gabe Wilson on Monday.
