The Patriots added another defensive player on night two of the 2023 NFL Draft, with New England using the 46th overall selection in Round 2 to select Georgia Tech’s Keion White.
His selection comes after the Detroit Lions made a trade with the Packers, who had the 45th overall selection, moving ahead of the Patriots and grabbing Alabama safety, Brian Branch, who was rumored to be a player New England was potentially interested in.
Looking at the film, White is a massive player, coming in at 6’5″ and 285lbs, and he’s an impressively athletic player for his size.
He’s someone who they appeared to move around a fair amount, showing tremendous power both inside and off the edge as he collapsed the pocket and got pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
He also makes a pretty good habit of getting into the backfield, finishing his senior season with 14 tackles for a loss along with 7.5 sacks. He’s also explosive, with exceptional power, and he’s just and absolute beast, bowling over offensive linemen on many of those pressures.
His addition gives New England another terrific young player on their defensive line, joining third-year player Christian Barmore among the club’s young nucleus up front.
White joins fellow defensive rookie Christian Gonzalez, who the Patriots drafted in the first round with the 17th overall selection on Thursday night.
